#1 Tampa Look to Advance to the Promise Land as They Face #2 Limestone in the NCAA Semifinals

TAMPA, Fla – The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team continues play at home as they take on Limestone University on Saturday at 1:00 PM in the NCAA Semifinals.

The Matchup: No. 1 University of Tampa (19-0) vs. No. 2 Limestone University (17-2)

Date/Time: Saturday, May 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM.

Location: Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. 1120 West North A Street, Tampa, FL 33606

Series History: This will be the 11th meeting between the two teams, as the Spartans trail in the all time series 10-1. Tampa looks to get revenge as the last time these teams faced off in the semifinals was in 2017, where Limestone would get the last laugh 12-10 as they went on to win a National Championship.

About the Spartans: Tampa comes into this game as the No.1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, with an astounding record of 19-0. The Spartans advanced through to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament with a 13-11 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University in the quarterfinals. Tampa’s leader in points, Colin White is coming off a five goal performance against Lenoir-Rhyne in the quarterfinals. 45 goals from Luke McAnaney this season has also created a scare for opposing defenses. Whilst the Spartans offense has been stellar all season, whilst having one of the best all around defensive units in the country. Led by two First Team All-Americans in goalkeeper Blake Ulmer and Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, defender Matthew Beddow. Making the Spartans one of the best all around teams in the nation, as they look to make it to their first ever NCAA Championship.

About the Saints: The Saints come into this matchup with an impressive 17-2 record on the year, Mike McGarry leads the Saints in scoring with 45 goals on the year as his four goal outing helped Limestone with a 17-14 victory over in conference opponent Wingate University in the quarterfinals. The Saints look to do something they’re accustomed to doing, beating the Spartans. As they look to become the first team to do what has not been done yet, defeat the Spartans.

J.B Clarke – Spartans Head Coach, J.B Clarke. Faces a team that he is very familiar with, his former team Limestone University. Clarke spent 10 seasons coaching the Saints as he would finish with a 174-24 record along with back-to-back National Championships with Limestone. Clarke will be in a different point of view Saturday, as he will look towards his past in order to get the Spartans into the promised land.
