#4 Spartans Race Past #13 Mercy for their Seventh Win

TAMPA, FL. – The No. 4 University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team ride past the No. 13 Mercy Mavericks for their seventh win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter: The game started with Tampa getting on the board first with a goal by Cece ColomboSarah HinkleEmma McLoughlin, and Lizzie Pierpont followed behind with three more goals forcing Mercy to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, Mercy puts their first points on the board. Mercy then converts on a man-up opportunity putting their second points on the board resulting in Tampa only being up by two. Tampa then responded with two goals from Hinkle and Pierpont. Tampa closed out the quarter with a goal from Emma McLoughlin keeping their distance. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

12:36 – Cece Colombo, unassisted

11:57 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted by Emma McLoughlin

11:22 – Emma McLoughlin, unassisted

9:50 – Lizzie Pierpont, assisted by Cece Colombo

2:47 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted by Olivia Mott

1:25 – Lizzie Pierpont, assisted by Olivia Mott

Second Quarter: Mercy opened the second quarter with a goal. Tampa then comes back with a goal by Jenna Myhal. Mercy scored twice slowly chipping away at Tampa’s lead. Tampa takes a timeout in an attempt to slow down Mercy’s momentum. Before the end of the quarter, Tampa scores two more times only putting them up by two. The Spartan goals headed into halftime were scored as follows:

10:34 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted by Jenna Myhal

5:50 – Gia Colombo, unassisted

3:21 – Riley McGettigan, unassisted

Score: 12-10 (Tampa)

Third Quarter: The third quarter started with Mercy getting on the board first. After another goal, they tie the game at 12 then takes their first lead of the night 13-12 with 7:59 left in the third. A goal from Sophi Wrisk ties the game at 13 as Tampa looks to make a comeback. From there, Tampa scored three more times before the end of the third safely retaining their lead. The Spartans goals were scored as follows:

3:59 – Sophi Wrisk, assisted by Gia Colombo

2:17 – Sophi Wrisk, unassisted

1:03 – Gia Colombo, unassisted

0:24 – Cece Colombo, unassisted

Score: 16-13 (Tampa)

Fourth Quarter: The last quarter started a little slow, but Mercy managed to get on the board first again. Tampa secures two more goals while their defense closed out the middle preventing Mercy from scoring anymore on the night. The Spartan goals for the fourth quarter were scored as follows:

7:30 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted by Olivia Mott

5:04 – Gia Colombo, unassisted

Final: 18-15 (Tampa)
