DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team recorded its third win of 2022 over a ranked opponent on Saturday evening. The 24th-ranked Eagles fended off a late rally by No. 17 Seton Hill to top the Griffins 15-13 at the ERAU Lacrosse Field. The Eagles are off to the best start in program history as they are undefeated at 5-0.

Murphy McDonough led the way for the Blue and Gold with eight points on four goals and four assists. Sallie Squire matched McDonough’s scoring output with four goals of her own, and she also won three draws, caused two turnovers, and picked up four ground balls.

McDonough erupted for four goals in the first quarter to stake the Eagles to a 6-2 lead. The Griffins opened the scoring at the 14:24 mark, but back-to-back goals by McDonough put the Eagles ahead 2-1 early in the quarter. Seton Hill was able to draw level with the Eagles, but the home team scored four unanswered in the last 4:29 to take a four-goal lead into the second period.

A nine-goal second saw the Eagles with a 5-4 edge in scoring, and at the half, the Eagle lead was 11-6.

The margin remained the same through the third quarter that saw the teams score two goals apiece, but a 5-2 scoring run allowed the Griffins to close the gap in the fourth.

Seton Hill scored the first two goals of the final quarter to narrow the lead to 13-10. Squire reclaimed a four-goal cushion for the Eagles with a goal at the 9:37 mark. The Eagle advantage was still four (15-11) with 4:16 left to play, but the Griffins did not quit. Skylar Orlowski scored to make it 15-12 at the 3:54 mark and less than a minute later, she struck again to pull the Griffins within two (15-13).

Elizabeth Ninesling won the next draw control for the Eagles – one of her six wins in the game – and with the exception of a shot that was saved, the Blue and Gold did not relinquish possession for the remainder of the contest.

The Eagles are back in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday, hosting Davis & Elkins at the ERAU Lacrosse Field.
