BOX SCORE

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team extended its winning streak to seven games with a 15-8 road win over Lander on Thursday. The 17th-ranked Eagles are now 7-1 on the year while Lander falls to 5-4.

Sallie Squire turned in her first five-goal performance of the season to lead the Eagles. Alexa Zeruto tallied five points on three goals and two assists and Kenley Zeruto matched her sister’s scoring output with three goals of her own. Aubrey Fixen went the distance in the cage matching her season-high 11 saves.

Squire got the scoring started with the Eagles’ fastest goal of the year, rattling the Lander cage just 10 seconds into the contest. In addition to scoring early, the Eagles scored often to start the first quarter, netting three goals in the first four minutes of play. Five different players got in the scoring column for the Eagles who led 6-1 at the end of the first 15 minutes.

All the offense of the second quarter came from Embry-Riddle as goals by the Zeruto sisters and Samantha Reich extended the Eagle lead to 9-1 at the half.

The first two goals of the third quarter went to the Bearcats as goals by Emmy Peterson and Brooke Kelly helped the home team narrow the gap to 9-3. Following a five-minute scoring drought for both teams, Squire scored on a free-position goal at the 5:48 mark and again with 26 seconds left in the period to reclaim the eight-goal (11-3) advantage for Embry-Riddle.

Alexa Zeruto got the first goal of the final quarter, but then the Bearcat offense came alive. Lander outshot the Eagles 9-5 in the period and outscored ERAU 3-1 in the first six minutes of the fourth. The Eagles answered with a three-goal run of their own, but the final three goals came from the Bearcats, including an Alyssa Suchan free position goal as time expired, resulting in the 15-8 final.

The Eagles wrap up their out-of-state road trip on Saturday with an 11 a.m. game at Belmont Abbey.
