ERAU: #18 Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Holy Family 16-9

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team earned its sixth win in a row on Sunday, downing Holy Family (1-5) 16-9 at the ERAU Lacrosse Stadium. The 18th-ranked Eagles got four goals each from Sallie Squire and Samantha Reich to improve their overall record to 6-1.
In addition to her four goals, Squire won six draws, picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Reich ended the day with four draw controls, while Kenley Zeruto added three scores and Anna Maurer and Zariah Durham chipped in four assists each.
The Eagles took control of the game early as goals from Zeruto, Squire and Reich staked the home team to an early 3-0 lead. The Tigers managed to get two goals back but two more scores by Reich and Zeruto gave ERAU a 5-2 lead at the end of the first.
The Blue and Gold dominated the offense in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 4-1 in the period and headed into the halftime break up 9-3.
Kenna Mant scored the second goal of her collegiate career to increase the Eagle lead to 10-3 nine minutes into the third quarter and then won the draw, which led to another Reich goal. The Tigers managed two goals in the last five minutes of the period and the Eagle margin was 12-5 heading into the fourth.
Holy Family scored the first goal of the fourth quarter at the 12:01 mark but were held scoreless over the next seven minutes. Conversely, the Eagles tallied three goals during that stretch to increase the margin to 16-6. The Tigers managed three goals in the last five minutes, but it was not enough to catch the Eagles who closed out their five-game homestand with a 5-0 ledger.
Next for the Eagles is a Thursday road trip to South Carolina for a 6 p.m. game against Lander.
