ERAU: Reich, Squire Lead Women’s Lacrosse Past Lee, 13-10

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Samantha Reich and Sallie Squire netted four goals apiece to lead 18th-ranked Embry-Riddle Women’s Lacrosse past Lee on a rainy evening at the ERAU Lacrosse Stadium on Friday. The win extended the Eagles’ home winning streak to four games and improved their overall record to 5-1, while Lee moves to 4-4 on the year.
Reich scored four goals on seven shots, while Squire was 4-for-8 in shots to go with five draws and a game-high eight ground balls. Kenley Zeruto added three goals to the Eagle tally.
Zeruto got the scoring started with an assist from Anna Maurer at the 9:28 mark. The Lady Flames won the draw (5-0) in the first, but it was the Eagles who dominated the offense, outshooting Lee 11-2 on the way to a 4-0 advantage.
The first two goals of the second quarter came from Lee’s Brittney White who also finished with four goals. But the Eagles got two goals of their own from Kenley Zeruto and Alexa Zeruto to maintain their four-goal (6-2) cushion at the half.
The third quarter proved the most prolific of the evening with both teams scoring four goals apiece. The Eagles scored all four of their goals within the first six minutes of the period, with Reich and Squire scoring two each, but they were unable to widen the gap as Lee scored three unanswered to make it 10-6 ERAU heading into the fourth.
With the Blue and Gold still leading by four (11-7) in the fourth, Lee scored at the 5:55 mark to make it 11-8, however the Eagles were able reclaim the four-point advantage courtesy of Zariah Durham’s goal 30 seconds later. The Lady Flames cut it to three again (12-9) with 1:27 remaining, but once again, the Eagles answered within seconds as Kenley Zeruto scored at the 1:07 mark to push the lead back to four (13-9).
A series of plays led to the Eagles winning the ball with just over five seconds left. They were unsuccessful in their clear attempt and White picked up the ball and scored as the horn sounded, resulting in the 13-10 final.
The Eagles will close out their five-game homestand at 10 a.m. on Sunday when they host Holy Family at the ERAU Lacrosse Stadium.
