Creekside (10-1) will put its 10-game winning streak on the line against No. 1 Ponte Vedra tonight.

There are times where losses prove more beneficial than victories. Creekside’s season-opening loss to Starr’s Mill certainly qualifies. The Knights boys lacrosse team thought they were going to be much improved this spring. A 12-7 loss recalibrated their attitudes. No. 9 Creekside (10-1) has not lost since. The Knights will face their sternest challenge of the season when they host No. 1 Ponte Vedra tonight. Neither St. Johns County program has lost to a Florida opponent this season. The Sharks (12-1) have dominated Northeast Florida opponents over the last nine years; but, this year’s Creekside team has the talent and togetherness reminiscent of the 2016 squad that led Ponte Vedra in the second half, before ultimately losing 14-11. Those Knights set a school-record for wins. Glenn Mandel was a freshman on that squad. The senior goalie is one of the captains of this year’s team and said the leadership and accountability that emanated from the captains of the 2016 team is similar to what he, Dawson Chasteen, Emmett Schultz, Will Coyle and Eric Spano have provided. “This year we are more of a team than we have (been) in year’s past,” Mandel said. “It shows in how we’ve been playing this year. We’re better than we’ve ever been. Our offense, there is no one guy. We feed the hot hand. We attack from everywhere.”   Read the rest HERE
