JUPITER — Instead of enjoying the beach, pool or playing video games like many of his peers, Jupiter High School student George Moroncini decided to do something different this summer.

A rising senior, Moroncini, 17, devoted two weeks to introduce the game of lacrosse to more than 20 students in the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) as part of a community service program. The project took place in the H.L. Stoutt Communitty College located in the British Virgin Islands.

“I knew that I would be wanting to apply to United States Military Academy, as well as Florida colleges, so I knew that I’d have to stand out and do something different,” Moroncini said.

 

 

He said he got the idea from his mother, who mentioned that one of her business associates was from the British Virgin Islands. Moroncini then thought his love of the game linked to the British Virgin Islands might be perfect.

While the idea sounded great, setting up the project was another huge barrier.
