Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

Andrew Kew / University of Tampa  / Sr. / Attack / Oakville, Ontario, Canada

Kew takes Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season for his performance in Tampa’s wins over Colorado Mesa University (19-6) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (25-8). During the game against the Mavericks, Kew tallied six goals, one assist, and picked up one ground ball. Facing the Eagles, the Ontario native scored five times and had three assists. The senior attacker took 16 shots, placing 12 on goal, scooped two ground balls, and 15 points across the two games. Kew has been named Offensive Player of the Week eight times in his career, tying him for second all-time in SSC men’s lacrosse weekly awards.

Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

Austen Lison / Florida Southern College / Sr. / LSM / Leesburg, Virginia Lison was selected Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Florida Southern’s three games last week. The Moccasins posted wins over Colorado State University-Pueblo (18-6) and Colorado Mesa University (18-6) and lost to No. 8 Belmont Abbey College (14-9). The Leesburg, Virginia product caused 12 turnovers picked up 13 ground balls across the three games, averaging 4.0 and 4.33 per game, respectively. Lison also added one assist and two goals to his weekly stats.

Men’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week

Ryan Land / Florida Tech / Sr. / FO / Ellicott City, Maryland Land earns Specialist of the Week honors for this record-setting performance at the faceoff X in Florida Tech’s wins over Nichols College (24-6) and No. 20 Rollins College (17-16). Against the Bison, the senior specialist won 16-of-19 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls. Facing the No. 20 Tars, Land won an SSC record 28 faceoffs on 37 attempts, scooping 14 ground balls, and added a goal during the game. The Panther is fourth in the league in faceoff winning percentage (0.664) and ground balls per game (8.50).

Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

Leslie Ferguson / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Attack / Marietta, Georgia Ferguson is awarded Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Saint Leo offense in wins over Belmont Abbey College (19-9), the University of Alabama-Huntsville (17-6), and the University of Montevallo (20-4). For the week, the Marietta, Georgia product registered 14 points, caused five turnovers, and 12 ground balls. Ferguson’s ten goals for the week helped the Lions offense sustain its 17.67 goals per game, the fourth-best scoring offense at the Division-II level.

Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

Elizabeth Ninesling / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Fr. / Midfield / Allentown, Pennsylvania Ninesling claims Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performance in Embry-Riddle’s 20-5 victory over Barton College. The Pennsylvanian won five draw controls, picked up five ground balls, and caused three turnovers in the decisive victory.  She also added four goals against the Bulldogs in her first SSC weekly award. Its just the second women’s lacrosse award in Eagles program history. 10170

LINK Excerpt: Midfielder of the Week Shannon Kavanagh * So. * Florida Kavanagh has now raked in three-straight Midfielder of the Week honors after posting eight goals, 10 draw controls and four ground balls against a pair of top 20 opponents last week. In Florida’s narrow 11-13 loss to No. 9 Princeton, she posted her fifth hat trick of the season while collecting four draw controls. Kavanagh then pushed Florida over the top against No. 17 Stony Brook, netting a game-high five goals including back-to-back scores to put the Gators ahead for good. She finished with two ground balls and six draw controls in Florida’s 11-10 victory. Kavanagh sits just two points away from 100 on her career as a sophomore. Defensive Player of the Week Haley Hicklen * Sr. * GK * Florida Hicklen backstopped Florida to an 11-10 win over No. 17 Stony Brook on Saturday, falling just one save short of her career-high with 15 stops. The performance followed a seven-save outing for the senior on Tuesday against No. 9 Princeton. For the week, Hicklen posted a .489 save percentage and 11.50 goals against average, and she leads the conference in both save percentage (.455) and saves per game (10.20).
