District 11 – Can Montverde Leap To The Top?

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in , , , .
District 11 was dominated by West Orange last year but with graduation of Mikey Berkman it’s hard to handicap where the District ends up this year.  Montverde Academy has shown a desire to make waves in lacrosse and has hired US Lacrosse Hall of Famer Brooks Sweet to run the program. Lake Minneola is also showing program improvement, Apopka has had nice records and Windermere High is coming off a nice first varsity year. In the first round of the FHSAA West Orange was beaten soundly by Bishop Moore after playing only one close district game, the district final win over Lake Minneola and in retrospect I think keeping them ranked at the end was tenuous at best. This is wide open. Last season’s Regular Season records via MaxPreps (Note: possibility not all results were uploaded):

One other thing that makes this season hard to prognosticate is that I received only one questionnaire back from the 8 schools . . . it could be 7 teams now because after asking many contacts and calling the school twice I still don’t know who the Evans head coach is . . . or if they are even playing this season. I’ll start with the only respondent and hopefully this will shake the rest out of their lethargy. Lake Minneola 10-7, lost in the district final Head Coach Bill Larkin provided us with the following: What are your expectations this season for the team? Compete for district championship Who are the returning players who will make a difference this season? Dionee Cortes , Kaleb Roehn, Kevin Ray, Gunnar Uutinen and Chase Meinhart What players do you expect to step up this year that didn’t get much playing time last year? Jordan Sleeth, Carter Hodge, Coltin Lipham, Spencer McMillion, Micheal McCleskey What are the games you are really looking forward to this season? ALL West Orange 14-1, lost in the FHSAA first round New West Orange Head Coach Fred White moves over from an assistant slot at Hagerty to take over and here’s his insights: What are your expectations this season for the team? As a first year HC at West Orange I’m looking to continue the tradition and compete for a district and metro championship Who are the returning players who will make a difference this season?
