District 13 – Will the All Saints/Bartow/Lakeland Round Robin Continue?

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in , , , .
District 13 is kind of an overlooked district since it is geographically between the hot spots of Orlando and Tampa and has not had success in the FHSAA bracket games.  Within their area All Saints, Lakeland and Bartow have had success recently in competing for the district title and we’ll see if that continues this season. Lake Wales and Lakeland Christian step up to varsity status in this district and we’ll see how much impact they can bring.   All Saints Academy won the District title last year but fell to Newsome in the first round of the FHSAA bracket.  It’s been a while since the District has won an FHSAA game.   All Saints Academy 13-2, lost in the first round of the FHSAA We have not yet received their questionnaire, we’ll update when we receive it   Bartow 11-2, lost in the district final We have not yet received their questionnaire, we’ll update when we receive it   Lakeland  7-5, lost in the district semifinals We have not yet received their questionnaire, we’ll update when we receive it   Winter Haven 8-8, lost in the district semifinal Head Coach Matt Harris has given us this insight for the upcoming season: What are your expectations this season for the team? We are rebuilding this year as we lost 15 seniors at the end of 2018 season. Who are the returning players who will make a difference this season? #4 Nick Pham (M), #36 Matt Harris (M), #54 Deven Marrall (M), #55 Jonathan Peralta (D) Jacob Jordan (G) What players do you expect to step up this year that didn’t get much playing time last year? #13 Hunter Lasseter and #30 Matthew Meador What are the games you are really looking forward to this season? Our District game vs Lakeland Christian (we won in quadruple overtime last season) pretty evenly matched.   Celebration 2-13, did not qualify for district Head Coach David Shearer has written in with these comments: What are your expectations this season for the team? The expectations are to improve on what was working for us last season. We returned a fair amount of players from last year and look to them to lead the younger athletes. We hope to make a return to the district playoffs this season after falling short last year. We strive to set our expectations high, as we represent Osceola County as the only school with a lacrosse program in the school district. Who are the returning players who will make a difference this season? Brody Gamble (Jr/Atk) will be looking to be a leader for us on the field and in the goals category. He has a great lacrosse IQ that translates into him being an overall scoring threat. We expect Ryan Erickson (Sr/Atk) to lead the offense this season, heading on field play calling. Lastly, we expect Christian Kendall (Sr/LSM) to be big for us on groundballs off the wing and an integral part of our defense as the fourth pole. What players do you expect to step up this year that didn’t get much playing time last year? We expect good things from Jake Leonard (Jr/FOA) as he steps into a starting role this season, hoping to be consistent off the draw. Marcus DeWolfe (So/Mid) returns this season and the best way to describe him is “squirrely”, we expect him to be the type of player in the right place at the right time. Zach Zelmanski (Fr/Mid) is new to the team but brings an interesting style to the game being a hockey player off the field. What are the games you are really looking forward to this season? We always look forward to our rivalry games against Lake Nona, Freedom (Orlando) and our district battle against Winter Haven. We are also looking forward to playing the newcomers in our district, Lakeland Christian and Lake Wales.   Lake Gibson  0-13, did not qualify for district We have not yet received their questionnaire, we’ll update when we receive it   Lake Wales is new to the varsity level We have not yet received their questionnaire, we’ll update when we receive it   Lakeland Christian is new to the varsity level We have not yet received their questionnaire, we’ll update when we receive it
