MELBOURNE, Fla. – It was a record-breaking day for the Florida Tech men’s lacrosse team as the Panthers earned a dominant 24-6 victory over Nichols College on Tuesday at Panther Field. The 27 face-off wins bested the Panthers’ previous single-game mark of 26, set in the 2017 win over NDNU. Oblong, Williams and Ryan Lepp all notched two caused turnovers in the game. Schillinger grabbed seven ground balls, while Oblong picked up six. Addison Abramson scored one goal, picked up five ground balls and one caused turnover. Sweeney assisted two of Chaconas’ goals during the spree, with the first assist pushing the senior midfielder over the 100-career point mark. Sweeney moved up to third all-time for points in a career with 108 following the game. Former Panther Andrew Conley owns the record at 139 points. Two more quick goals by Tech increased the margin to five with 8:15 to go in the first quarter. Nichols finally got into the board on a fast break score by Hunter Ferreira with 7:46 to go in the first. His tally kicked off a 4-2 run by the Bison that cut their deficit to 7-4 with 10:21 to go before halftime. Florida Tech responded with a 4-0 run, on goals by Pohlmeyer and Weinstein, and two by Bowser, to grab an 11-4 advantage with 5:15 to go in the second. Connor Santoni’s second tally of the game trimmed the Bison’s deficit to 11-5 at halftime. After Santoni tallied the final goal of the day for the Bison with 9:39 to go in the fourth, Tech closed the contest with seven straight goals and walked away with their fourth win of the season.
