via FIT press release – photo by Louis Marinacci   BOX SCORE   Schiano leads Tech with four points in 12-6 loss to Alabama-Huntsville MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women’s lacrosse team dropped its final nonconference game of the season Tuesday, as the Panthers fell to Alabama-Huntsville, 12-6, at Panther Stadium. Sam Schiano led Tech with two goals and two assists in addition to collecting seven draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Leah Dunn and Mollie Kaplan each finished with two goals and two caused turnovers. Kailee O’Brien added four ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Olivia Going recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Chloe Zador ended the game with three saves. Schiano caught a pass from Dunn and then knifed through the Chargers’ defense for the opening goal just 55 seconds into the game. UAH answered with two quick goals to grab a 2-1 lead with 26:26 to go in the first half. Less than six minutes later, Schiano found Kaplan on the crease for the goal to tie the game at 2-2. The Chargers netted two more to increase their lead to 4-2 but Dunn answered with consecutive goals for the Panthers to tie it up, again, at 4-4 with 11:56 remaining in the first half. Another tally by the Chargers with just under 10 minutes to go in the frame gave them a 6-5 edge at halftime. Two more goals by the Chargers pushed their advantage to 7-4 with 19:47 left in the second half.  Less than a minute later, Schiano scored her second of the frame off an assist by Alexis Townsend. UAH would produce five more unanswered goals to put the game out of reach with just over 10 minutes left on the clock. Kaplan scored Tech’s final goal of the game with 45 seconds to go but at that point, the game was already out of reach for the Panthers and the Chargers went on to earn their ninth win of the season. The Panthers concluded the contest with an edge in ground balls (25-22) and draw controls (11-8). Both teams finished with 22 shots in the game. Florida Tech will look to get back on track when the Panthers open SSC play by hosting Tampa on Wednesday, Apr. 3. Start time for the matchup with the Spartans is set for 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
