photo by Tiffany Franco   Busy weekend for for the 4 Division 1 programs in the Sunshine State!   UF Women: The Florida Gators continue their wax on, wax off season, earned their 2nd Top 3 scalp of the season with the 12-10 win over #3 ranked Stony Brook! Gators Post Top-5 Victory against No. 3 Stony Brook Excerpt: GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 8 Florida lacrosse team pulled off the comeback victory against No. 3 Stony Brook, defeating the Seawolves 12-10 on Saturday afternoon. The Gators are now 3-1 against Top-25 opponents this season, including a 2-0 record against Top-5 teams. Shannon Kavanagh led the way offensively, registering four goals and an assist on the day. Grace Haus followed with a hat trick of her own, while Maggie Corbo pitched in a career-high two goals. Brianna Harris, Emily Heller and Kassidy Bresnahan all found the back of the net once for the Gators. Read the rest HERE   JU Men: On Saturday it was the annual Moe’s Classic, with 3 high school games wrapping around the Jacksonville – Utah matchup.  As Joe Pesci might have said “The two Utes . . .”, Perkins and Burke, were driving a mint green . . . team crazy. Dolphins Tripped Up By Utes in Moe’s Lacrosse Classic Excerpt: JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Redshirt-senior Evan Tyler and freshman Ethan LaMond combined for seven of Jacksonville University’s 11 goals, but the Dolphin men’s lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early six-goal run by Utah en route to a 15-11 decision in the Moe’s Lacrosse Classic, Saturday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field. “We are definitely disappointed in the outcome of today, but also recognize the opportunity it presents us moving forward,” noted head coach John Galloway following the game. “We were able to generate 53 shots, and sometimes you run into a hot goalie. Credit to Utah for capitalizing on our mistakes, but we do feel confident this group has so much potential. I remain steadfast that this group will continue to get better each day. We said all month you can’t win or lose championships in February. Tomorrow, the calendar turns, and it is time for us to use the lessons learned to become a team.” Read the rest HERE   JU Women vs Stetson Women In an early season ASun conference matchup it was JU’s Sarah Elms showing ‘Eight is Enough’ to take down Stetson 18-6 on Sunday in Jacksonville. JU Recap: Elm’s Historic Effort Lifts Jacksonville Past Stetson Excerpt: JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team (3-1, 1-0 ASUN) came out of the gates firing and never looked back against Stetson (1-2, 0-1 ASUN) in its ASUN opener on Sunday afternoon, 18-6. The historic effort this time around, as they become common-place for this group, came from Sarah Elms who buried a career-high and program-record-tying eight goals. Her first three came on consecutive tries in less than a minute as the Dolphins during a 5-3 lead into an 8-3. She canned two more in the first half and the remaining three in the second, including the 18 and final goal for Jacksonville. Elms joins Jenny Kinsey as the only two Dolphins in program history to record eight goals in a single game. Kinsey did it on May 2, 2019 opposite Kennesaw State. Elms takes over the team lead with 19 goals this season. Read the rest HERE Stetson Recap: Hatters Drop ASUN Opener Excerpt: JACKSONVILLE—Stetson dropped its ASUN Conference lacrosse opener on Sunday, falling 18-6 at perennial power Jacksonville. Five different players scored for the Hatters (1-2, 0-1) but Stetson couldn’t maintain its early momentum throughout the game. The Hatters opened the game by falling into a 3-0 hole less than eight minutes. But a goal by Kate Johnson and back-to-back scores by Saige-Lyn Gidzinski knotted the game at 3-3 with 15:49 remaining before halftime. Read the rest HERE
