FSC Women: Thirteen Different Moccasins Score as FSC Tops Seton Hill 21-9

  via FSC press release   BOX SCORE LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse picked up its second win of the season with a 21-9 victory over Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon at Moccasin Field. The Mocs (2-1) rallied off a string of six straight goals, and seven straight goals to take a 15-4 halftime lead over the visiting Griffins (1-1). Florida Southern’s offense was led by Marina Jozokos who found the back of the net three times on the afternoon. Six different Moccasins recorded a pair of goals, while another six tallied a goal. HOW IT HAPPENED  Early in the game, Catherine DeKorte took a free position shot and put it past the Griffins goalie to open the scoring at the 29:10 mark of the first half. Freshman Katie Yeagle recorded her first collegiate goal to give the Mocs an early 2-0 lead. The Griffins responded with three goals of their own, including a man-up goal by Mackenzie Kilduff to take a 3-2 lead at the 22:19 mark. The Griffins only lead of the game lasted a mere 25 seconds as Sarah Grady tied the game three. Grace Glinecki would follow up Grady’s goal with the fourth Moccasin goal to put the Mocs up for good as they rallied off six straight goals. The Moccasins sister duo of Aubriana and Maliah Benedetto teamed up for a goal as Aubriana Benedetto assisted on younger sister Maliah’s third goal of the season to put the Mocs up 11-4. Florida Southern would close out the first half on a 7-0 run. Jozokos scored her first two goals of the game about 90 seconds apart, which gave the Mocs its first 10-goal advantage on the afternoon. • Seton Hill came out of the ten-minute break as Brooke Lawrence recorded her first goal on the day. The Mocs would answer as Gracie Maganzini took a feed from Julia Couch to put the Mocs lead back to 11. After two goals by the Griffins, Jozokos picked up the hat trick to put the Mocs back up by ten at the 16:06 mark in the second half to begin a 3-0 run for FSC. Florida Southern and Seton Hill would trade goals over the final eight minutes. Both of the Mocs final two goals came on free position shots as A. Benedetto scored the 20th goal for FSC. Just as she began the game, DeKorte closed out the game with a free position goal to give the Mocs a 21-9 victory. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern improved to 5-0 all-time against Seton Hill. The Mocs have won all four meeting as the home team, 2-0 at Moccasin Field and 2-0 at Bryant Stadium. (FSC’s home field from 2012-2017 • With another two goals on the day, Glinecki brought her season total to nine goals. Alanna Zambetti and Brittany Iamele both made three saves, while freshman goalie Patricia Werker made a save on a total of 16 shots on goal. • Florida Southern picked up 26 ground balls to 12 by Seton Hill. The Mocs won 13 of 32 draw controls and converted 14 successful clears on 17 attempts. UP NEXT • Florida Southern will head to North Carolina for three games. In North Carolina, the Mocs will take on a trio of South Atlantic Conference teams in Catawba (March 7), Wingate (March 8), and Queens (March 10). FSC will return to Moccasin Field on March 13 vs. Slippery Rock.
