via UF press release   BOX SCORE GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Florida lacrosse team defeated the Liberty Flames 17-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Donald R. Dizney Stadium to close out the regular season. The Gators improve to 14-2 on the year, while the Flames drop to 9-8 in the 2021 campaign. This is the eighth time in program history that Florida has won at least 14 regular season games and the Gators have now won 11-straight games. Shannon Kavanagh led the way offensively for Florida, recording four goals on the afternoon. Brianna Harris pitched in three goals of her own in the game, while Kassidy Bresnahan, Grace Haus and Danielle Pavinelli each registered two. Charlotte Harmon, Liz Harrison, Emily Heller and Janine Suris each found the back of the cage once for Florida. Harris dished out a team-high three assists in the game, followed by two from Kavanagh – bringing them each to six points. Haus, Maggi Hall, Paisley Eagan and Jill Quigley each recorded one helper in the victory. Florida won 10-of-19 draw controls on the afternoon, with Heller notching a team-best three. Kavanagh and Eagan each recorded two in the game. UF’s defense was spectacular, allowing only two goals in the game – the last time Florida allowed only two goals was April 8, 2017 when the team defeated Cincinnati 19-2. The Gators held Liberty to a .125 shooting percentage and recorded 16 caused turnovers as a squad. Cara Trombetta and Maeson Tydings led the way with three caused turnovers apiece in the game – a career-best mark for Tydings. Kavanagh and Kaitlyn Dabkowski each registered two of their own, while six Gators recorded one caused turnover in the game. Trombetta and Sarah Reznick each tallied a team-best four groundballs in the game, followed by three from Heller. Reznick had a tremendous day in goal, recording six saves while only allowing two goals for a .750 save percentage – tying her career-best mark. Julia Hammerschlag saw just under nine minutes in the cage, coming up with one save and allowing no goals for a 1.000 save percentage. The Gators are back in action on May 6 for the AAC Tournament semifinal against 4-seed Cincinnati. The game is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. • The Gators opened the game with a six-goal run that spanned the course of just over eight minutes, forcing the Flames to use their first timeout.
• Danielle Pavinelli netted the first Gator goal just 40 seconds in on a pass from Shannon Kavanagh, followed by Grace Haus’ first of the day just 17 seconds later to put Florida up 2-0.
• Brianna Harris converted on a free position attempt for her first of the day to put the Gators up 3-0 just 89 seconds into the game, while Kassidy Bresnahan found the back of the cage on an unassisted attempt to keep the Gators rolling.
• Just before the timeout, Shannon Kavanagh and Haus went back-to-back in the span of 25 seconds.
• Out of the timeout, the Gators continued to roll – going up 11-0 into halftime. Kavanagh netted her second of the day, this time on a pass from Haus to put Florida up 7-0.
• Harris once again found the back of the cage on a free position attempt, followed by a goal from the stick of Pavinelli to put Florida up 9-0 with just under three minutes to play in the half.
• The final two goals of the frame were netted by Harris and Kavanagh, respectively, to put Florida up 11-0 going into the half.
• Out of the locker room, Bresnahan netted her second goal of the day to give the Gators the 12-0 advantage. Liberty notched back-to-back goals over the span of four minutes from 25:28-21:32, but Florida closed out the game on a 5-0 run to secure the victory.
• The run began on a goal from the stick of Emily Heller and that was followed by Kavanagh’s fourth goal of the game to put Florida up 14-2 with 9:20 left in the game.
• The final three goals were the first of the day for Charlotte Harmon, Liz Harrison and Janine Suris, giving the Gators the 17-2 victory.
