via JU press release   JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men’s lacrosse team has named a fourth team captain as senior Evan Tyler was selected to help lead the 2019 Dolphins, as announced JU head coach John Galloway Wednesday afternoon. Tyler joins three others, seniors Eric ApplegateHayden La Vangie, and sophomore Dixon Smith, who were named captains this past June following the 2018 season. “Elevating Evan to captain was maybe the easiest decision I have made this year,” stated Galloway. “Evan has grown up before our eyes over the last two seasons and you can feel his presence every day on and off the field. He has a lighthearted way to get the most out of everyone on our team. He leads by example every time he straps it up; he pushes himself to limits that most people are afraid to even consider.” “It’s a huge honor and something I’ve worked hard for. This program is a huge part of my life,” commented Tyler on his captainship. “It’s something I’ve certainly thought about since I was a freshman and set foot on campus here. My career here has had plenty of ups and downs. Coach Galloway giving me a second chance to come back and earn an opportunity to be where I am says a lot about him and hopefully myself. … Being able to lead on and off the field certainly means a lot to me.” Tyler saw action in 11 games at midfield last season, with seven points to his credit. Perhaps most notably, the Richmond, Va. native scored a hat trick – including the game winner with 1:22 left in overtime – against High Point in the Southern Conference semifinals to send the Dolphins to the tournament final for the first time in program history. Added Galloway, “We are lucky to have this young man leading our program and if we can all learn to live our lives 110 mph like Evan, we will be a tough out against anyone in the country. He truly embodies our Duval Mission.”
