via Lynn press release   BOCA RATON, Fla. – Just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Lynn University women’s lacrosse team and head coach Mindy Richmond did their part in reflecting Lynn’s value-driven mission of being others-minded by partnering with Gift of Life Marrow Registry. Headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, Gift of Life is an international public bone marrow and blood stem cell registry. Through its life-saving work, Gift of Life is a world leader in facilitating transplants for children and adults suffering from many life-threatening diseases, like leukemia and lymphoma. “Lynn University’s values, including service, are of utmost importance when it comes to the development of our young student-athletes into community-centered adults who can have a positive impact on society,” said Richmond. “Through ‘Spirit Service Strength’ our athletes are able to become dynamic and resilient leaders while remaining others-minded. I believe it is my job as the head coach to help encourage my student-athletes to give back and to recognize how fortune many of us are in our lives.” Coach Richmond was contacted by Gift of Life when a high school lacrosse player from Sarasota, Florida was in need of an immediate transplant. Richmond and the Fighting Knights immediately stepped up and hosted the first of two swab events on Lynn’s campus in hopes of finding a potential match. The women’s lacrosse team utilized social media and word-of-mouth to quickly spread awareness on campus for the second event and received a great turnout from fellow service-driven student-athletes on other teams to participate. “It is incredible how quickly blood and marrow cancer can take one’s life, so getting swabbed to potentially save a life, whether that be now or in the future, can truly be heroic,” Richmond added. Erin Bodmer, a sophomore on the Lynn lacrosse team, commented, “I think that we have are in a very influential position here at Lynn University where we have the opportunity as an entire team to really make a difference in the community.”
