via Lynn press release   BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s lacrosse head coach Mindy Richmond has the building blocks for her 2020 inaugural team following the announcement of seven freshmen for her first incoming class.  Erin Bodmer, Delaney Popella, Carolyn Stein, Miller Jordan, Gabby Braswell, Cecelia Cady and Isabella Alexander are the first women’s lacrosse signees in program history. “It is with great excitement that I announce this first group of commits for the newest Fighting Knights athletic program,” said Richmond.  “I am certain these young ladies will be amazing representatives for our institution and role models and leaders for our young program. They bring with them a plethora of accolades and lacrosse experience, and as captains for their schools upcoming season, they are sure to help lead the way as our team comes together this coming fall. Each of these student-athletes possess an incredible work ethic that will help lay the foundation for what is expected within our program.” Erin Bodmer Freshman|Attack Owings, Md. | The Calverton School A two-time captain for the Cougars, Bodmer earned First Team All-Metro Independent Schools Athletic League in 2018 and Second Team All-MISAL in 2017. Bodmer earned MISAL MVP for the 2018 season and was selected to Team Maryland at the Brine All-American Lacrosse National Classic. From the Coach: “Erin brings an amazing lacrosse IQ to the team. She is from a lacrosse hot bed and has been playing at a high level for many years. Erin will be able to step in right away and produce offensively for our team. She is a well-rounded, deceptive attacker who can score equally as well as she can assist. She is strong, aggressive and has excellent stick skills.” Delaney Popella Freshman |Midfield Topsail, N.C. | Topsail HS Popella is a four-year letterwinner in lacrosse and swimming who is also a two-time captain in each sport.  She was named First Team All-Conference and All-Area in 2018 while garnering First Team and Second Team All-Conference recognition in 2017 and 2016.  Additionally, Popella was also selected to Team Tennessee at the Brine All-American National Classic. From the Coach: “Delaney is a force to be reckoned with. She plays physical with no fear and is scrappy and tenacious when it comes to finding the ball. She is excellent on the draw circle and challenges hard to the cage. She is a true midfielder with great stamina and will set the tone for hustle during training.” Carolyn Stein Freshman | Midfield Parkland, Fla. | Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS Stein was named varsity captain for 2019 following a 2018 season in which she was honored as a First Team All-District, Sun-Sentinel All-Broward County Honorable Mention and Student Athlete Community Service Network All-Area selection.  She collected All-District honors in 2016-17 as well as All-Region and FACA All-State recognition. From the Coach: “Carolyn is a force on the draw circle and is a true two-way midfielder. She brings with her an incredible level of dedication and commitment to the sport, has an inner drive like no other and is constantly working on her game. Her first mentality will be vital in bringing the team together.” Miller Jordan Freshman | Goalie Memphis, Tenn. | Briarcrest Christian HS A five-year varsity starter and 2019 captain, Jordan has earned Tennessee Girls Lacrosse Association First Team All-West and Memphis Commercial Appeal All-Metro accolaes while also being selected to participate as a Maryland Lacrosse Showcase All-Star. From the Coach: “Miller’s focus and composure are what make her such an amazing goalie. She has five years of varsity experience and is accustomed to being under pressure. She has a great eye for the ball, quick reactions and never gets flustered. She will be a calming force for our young defensive unit and will be able to use her big game experience immediately.” Gabby Braswell Freshman | Midfield Bowie, Md. | Elizabeth Seton HS Braswell was named captain for the upcoming 2019 season after she earned Third Team All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference recognition and was twice selected for the DC Metro Women’s National Tournament. From the Coach: “Gabby truly is a gifted athlete who has only begun to tap her potential. She competes in one of the toughest conferences in the nation and has made immense gains in the short time that she has been playing. Gabby is a dominant middie with equal strength on both ends. She is fast, agile, aggressive and very fit. She will be a key factor in our transition game and will be one of our best ball handlers.” Cecelia Cady Freshman | Defense Naples, Fla. | Naples HS Cady, a 2019 varsity captain, is a three-year letterwinner for Naples High School.  Last year she garnered Naples Daily News Honorable Mention All-Area accolades. From the Coach: “Cecelia is a strong and physical defender who has an incredible work ethic and is highly motivated. She is excellent with her 1v1 defense and does a great job matching hip and defending the crease. Cecelia stands out in her ability to motivate others and her team centric mentality and her high level of commitment to lacrosse will make her a respected leader that will help anchor our defense unit.” Isabel ‘Grace’ Alexander Freshman | Defense Greenville, N.C. | J.H. Rose HS Alexander is a four-year letterwinner for J.H. Rose High School who was named the varsity captain in 2019.  She earned Second Team All-Conference recognition and was also selected to Team Carolina at the Brine All-American Lacrosse National Classic. From the Coach: “Grace has a true love for the game. Though growing up in a nontraditional lacrosse area, she has gone out of her way to have lacrosse in her life. Grace is a spunky defender with quick feet and aggressive slides.
