No. 4 Men’s Lacrosse Upends Webber, 12-6 as East Sets Program Record for Assists

  Score: No. 4 Keiser 12, Webber Int’l 6 Records: No. 4 Keiser (3-2), Webber Int’l (1-2) Location: Keiser Multi-Purpose Field, West Palm Beach, Fla. The fourth-ranked Seahawks toppled Webber International 12-6 on Wednesday afternoon in West Palm Beach. Hunter East became the all-time leader in assists with 45 after tallying six on the day. • Dylan Sharpe opened the scoring at the 12:32 mark with his fourth tally of the season.
• Webber evened the game with 8:34 remaining and took their first lead with 6:04 to go.

  Keiser 5, Webber Int’l 3

• An unassisted goal by East evened the score at two-apiece with 12:18 left in the half.
• Webber went back in front with 8:16 remaining as Houston Finlayson lasered the ball into the back of the net.
• Landon Underwood capitalized on a WIU turnover in their own zone, tying the game with 7:50 showing on the clock.
• One minute later, Cole Stassi put the Seahawks ahead by one with an unassisted goal.
• A man-up goal by Weston Waerness off a feed from East extended the KU advantage to 5-3 with 3:54 to go.

• Keiser scored back-to-back goals in a 20-second span, increasing their lead to 7-3 with 8:53 remaining in the quarter.
• The final goal of the quarter came at the 6:43 mark as Sharpe fired the ball home.
• East assisted on all three Keiser goals in the quarter.

• An East man-up goal off a feed by Sharpe with 13:40 left capped off a 7-0 run by the Seahawks as the scoreboard read, 9-3.
• The Warriors got back in the scoring column with 10:28 to go and added a man-up goal with 8:12 remaining to get within four, 9-5.
• Sharpe completed his hat-trick at the 5:11 mark off a pass from East, but the Warriors matched the goal just ten seconds later.
• With under two minutes remaining, Keiser put a stamp on the win a pair of goals in a six-second span, claiming the victory by a final score of 12-6.
• The second goal was scored by Cam Provines as he won the faceoff and went right to the goal.

Men’s lacrosse falls in first road game in program history at No. 4 Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 3, 2021) – The first ever road game and first ever nonconference game in the history of the Webber International University men’s lacrosse program resulted in a 12-6 loss for the Warriors at No. 4 nationally-ranked Keiser University. In what was only the third game in the history of the Webber (1-2 overall) men’s lacrosse program, it was also the Warriors’ second defeat against a top-five nationally-ranked opponent to open up their inaugural campaign after also losing 19-8 at home against No. 5 University of the Cumberlands in the first game in program history back on February 13. It was a tremendous start for Webber against Keiser (3-2) after two goals by Christian Tapia gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Webber then led 3-2 with eight minutes left in the first half on a goal by Houston Finlayson before the Seahawks took a 5-3 advantage into the locker room. Keiser then outscored the Warriors 3-0 in the third quarter and scored again to open up the fourth quarter. It was a stretch of seven straight goals for the Seahawks to go from down 3-2 in the second quarter to up 9-3 in the fourth. Alexander Kew scored back-to-back goals to get Webber back to within four at 9-5 with eight minutes left to play, and then a goal by Jack Ostrander with five minutes left made it 10-6. On both of those occurrences during which the Warriors cut their deficit down to four in the fourth quarter, Webber proceeded to win the faceoff before unfortunately turning it over. Keiser then salted it away with two more goals in the final minute and a half of the contest. In addition to their two goals, Tapia and Kew both added an assist to finish with three points in the game. Jordan Elam was 4-for-9 on face-offs and led Webber with five groundballs, and Dave Becker was 4-for-11 on face-offs. “Our guys played tough against a very good and well-coached Keiser team today,” said Head Coach Chris Burdick. “We got big performances out of Jordan Elam and Brad Taylor on defense, and Christian Tapia was very good in the midfield today as well. We had chances at 9-5 and 10-6 to close the gap in the fourth quarter, but we made some mistakes in those key moments. We can learn a lot from today, that is for certain.” Next up, Webber will return home for a scrimmage against NCAA Division-II Flagler College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, before returning to Appalachian Athletic Conference action at home against St. Andrews University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9.
