via AMU press release – photo by Mariano Lacayo   BOX SCORE AVE MARIA, Fla.  – Junior Emma Davis registered four goals to increase her team-leading total to 21 this season, but it wasn’t enough as the Ave Maria University women’s lacrosse team dropped a 23-9 decision vs. No. 7 Life (Ga.) University on Wednesday evening at Gyrene Field. With the loss, the Gyrenes overall record slips to 1-4.  Each of AMU’s three losses this season have come against opponents ranked among the top nine nationally.  Life improves to 8-3 following the victory. The two teams traded goals in a span of just 29 seconds just under three minutes into the action.  Maria Arvizu scored the first of her seven goals on the night at the 27:47 mark to put the Running Eagles ahead 1-0.  Jeanine Sullivan evened the score at 1-1 for AMU at 27:18. Two more goals for Life by Arizu and Brianna Freeman increased the margin to 3-1 before the Gyrenes punched the net again on a shot by Aiyanah Simms that trimmed the lead to 3-2 at 22:12. Life then took control with five consecutive goals by five different players over the next seven minutes to take an 8-2 lead. Davis added the first of her two goals in the opening half at 13:22. The Running Eagles closed out the first half with five of the final seven goals to go into the break ahead 13-6. Life outscored the Gyrenes 10-3 over the final 30 minutes to seal the victory. Joining Davis among the AMU scoring leaders was Simms, who finished with a pair of goals.  Samantha Freeze, Sullivan and Emma Baughman each posted a single score. Life outshot the Gyrenes 32-23 and committed 18 turnovers to AMU’s 21. The Gyrenes return to action on Wednesday, April 7 when they host Webber University on Senior Day at Gyrene Field beginning at 6 p.m. EDT.
