PBA Women: Windermere’s Swartz, Hagerty’s Gallant Lead PBA’s Incoming Class

PBA Women’s Lacrosse Announces Newcomers for 2021

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse Head Coach Jayson Schmidt has announced his newcomers that will join the Sailfish for the upcoming 2020 season. The incoming class consists of twelve high school graduates and two college transfers. The group of 14 newcomers will attempt to help PBA build upon a 5-3 record during the shortened 2019 season. “This class is full of excitement”, said head coach Jayson Schmidt. “They’re the embodiment of a Sailfish lacrosse player – passionate about lacrosse, their academics, and their faith. We are optimistic about this group and we believe they’ll be the driving force for us in years to come as we chase everything that God has for us. I have been encouraged to see their pursuit of excellence to this point in the fall. They are making our team better every day.”

Katie Avena hails from Austin, Texas where she graduated from Lake Travis HS. The 5’3″ freshman midfielder was a varsity starter all four years at Lake Travis where she earned All-State honors during her senior season. Avena also led the team in scoring during here sophomore and senior years.

Maddeline Bassoff comes to PBA from Harrisburg, Pa where she graduated from Central Dauphin HS. During her high school career, she scored 176 goals and recorded 54 assists. She was named First-Team All-Conference as a freshman and sophomore.

Kaelin DeNeui, a 5’9″ freshman midfielder, comes to PBA from Winston-Salem, N.C. where she graduated from Mount Tabor HS. DeNeui scored 103 goals with 14 assists in her junior and senior seasons, earning lacrosse All-Conference honors her sophomore and juniors seasons. She helped lead the Spartans to conference championships during her sophomore and junior seasons.

Chloe Gallant, a 5’5″ freshman from Oviedo, Fla. joins the Sailfish family after graduating from Hagerty HS. Gallant started her high school career by being named Rookie of the Year after her freshman season. She was named a four-time All-Conference honoree and earned Seminole County First-Team honors.
Ella Howlin
Ella Howlin is a 5’9″ freshman midfielder who joins the Sailfish from Stanley, N.C. and Southlake Christian Academy. During her four years og high school, Howlin scored 94 goals for the Eagles.
Katie Karlsen
Katie Karlson is a 5’3″ attacker from Glyndon, Md. Karlson comes to PBA after graduating and playing at Maryvale Prep.
Andrea Kovacic
Andrea Kovacic, a 5’9″ freshman attacker, comes to West Palm Beach from Bel Air, Md. where she graduated and competed at C. Milton Wright HS.

Abigail Lowtan is a 5’8″ freshman goalie who hails from Rochester, N.Y. Lowtan attended Aquinas Institute where she was named a scholar athlete and selected as an All-Region team performer.
Sara Metheny is a 5’1″ freshman defender from South Harrison, N.J. Metheny played for coach Jeanie Hara while graduating from Kingsway Regional HS where she was forced to miss her junior season due to injury. She bounced back to be named captain during her senior season before it was cut short due to Covid-19.
Brooke Sisk
Brooke Sisk comes to PBA from Baltimore, Md. The 5’2″ freshman defender played and graduated from Notre Dame Prep.
Arianna Soffos
Arianna Soffos comes to PBA after spending her freshman season at Limestone. The 5’3″ sophomore attacker appeared in all five games for the Saints during the shortened 2020 season. The Saint Leonard, Md. native graduated from Calvert HS.

Taylor Swartz, a 5’3″ freshman defender,  joins the Sailfish from Winter Garden, Fla. where she played for coach Ann Bomleny at Windermere HS. In her final high school season, Swartz was named First-Team All-Conference. Swartz led Windermere to a 7-1 record after recording 40 total points with 32 goals and eight assists.
Jia Wang, a 5’2″ sophomore midfielder, joins the Sailfish family after spending her freshman season at Maryville. She appeared in one game during the shortened 2020 season for the Saints. The Iowa native played and graduated from Johnston HS.
Gabby Womble
Gabby Womble is a 5’8″ freshman midfielder who joins the Sailfish from Boston, Mass. Womble played both lacrosse and ice hockey while graduating from St. Mark’s School.
