TAMPA, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse came up just short in their season-opener on Saturday evening, falling in the final seconds to Alabama-Huntsville 16-15.

The ‘Fish led throughout most of the contest after taking their first lead on Anna Laskaris’ first goal with just over nine minutes to play in the first half. That was part of a five-goal run for the Sailfish as they opened up a 9-5 lead late in the first half. The Chargers came back to make it a 10-9 game at the break.

In the second half the ‘Fish found the scoring column early as Laskaris found the net 39 seconds into the second half. After the Chargers tied it at 11-11, Kiki Cinotti put the ‘Fish back in front with one of her game-high six goals.

PBA built a three-goal advantage with 9:31 to play with goals from Cinotti, Laskaris and Kate LeBlanc, but UAH closed the game with four straight goals including the game-winner with just 10 seconds to play.

Laskaris finished with four goals for the Sailfish while LeBlanc added three. Grace Bartlinski found the back of the net just once but was credited with two assists. Lindsey Heffler also scored in the game for PBA. Abigal Nehring made nine saves for the ‘Fish in the game.

PBA is back in action on Valentine’s Day as they take on Post at 5 p.m. in a game played at the US Lacrosse facility in Sparks, Maryland.
