Rollins Men Return to Winning Ways with 13-10 Victory over Young Harris

Eight Tars Score En Route to Regional Win

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. (March 1, 2019) – Eight Tars scored en route to a 13-10 South Region victory over Young Harris College on Friday afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.  The win advances the Rollins men’s lacrosse team to a record of 2-1 on the season, while the Mountain Lions drop to 3-3 overall. Greg Taicher led the way with a game high four goals, followed by Ryan Dunn with a hat trick of his own.  Brandon Carlinmatched Dunn in overall points with three as he notched one goal and a team high two assists.  Blake BuellKyle PorteraKyle SudolJoey Cinque, and Finn Jent all found the back of the net one time apiece, while Jackson Colling and Grant Long earned one assist each.  Cam Reeves won a game high eight ground balls as he won 10-of-12 faceoff attempts, while Sudol won 10-of-11 and earned five ground balls.  Senior defender Evan Schimek earned a game high four caused turnovers while adding three ground balls.  In goal, Landon Salie played a full 60 minutes, seeing 26 shots and 19 shots on goal, and earned nine saves on the evening. Young Harris saw Mason King play a full game between the pipes, earning 22 saves as he faced 47 shots and 35 shots on goal from the Tars.  Bruce Silk led YHC with four goals and an assist, followed by Cody Bielec with three.  Daniel Zimny led the Mountain Lions with three assists, and added a goal for a four point performance on the day.  Garrett Blake earned one goal and one assist, followed by Beau Henson with a goal of his own, and Bobby Kidd III and Bevan Pate with an assist apiece.  Alex Venturino, Tyler Oglesby, and Eric Lemire earned a team high three ground balls each, with Lemire winning 5-of-14 faceoff attempts. How it Happened: Rollins found the back of the net first, scoring on an unassisted goal by Cinque with 11:29 on the clock to take a 1-0 lead.  However, the Mountain Lions netted the next two, taking a 2-1 lead with 8:32 left in the first quarter.  The Tars answered back with back-to-back goals by Taicher to take a slim 3-2 lead entering into the second quarter, and extended their advantage to three as they added two more to start the second period, owning a 5-2 lead with 9:58 to play before halftime.  Young Harris outscored the Tars in the final eight minutes of action in the second quarter, 3-2, but the Tars held on and maintained the lead with a 7-5 edge at halftime.  Rollins outscored Young Harris in the third quarter, 3-2, and both teams tallied three goals apiece in the final period, helping the Tars to the 13-10 win. Notes:
  • Rollins received votes on both the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20, as well as the USILA/Warrior and New Balance Division II Poll this week.
  • The Tars continue to dominate on the faceoff, this time winning 20-of-25 on the evening thanks to Sudol who won 10-of-11, and Reeves who earned 10-of-12.
  • The Tars now lead the all-time series with Young Harris, 5-0.
