Rollins Men: Tars Notch Second Straight Win with 10-5 Victory over UAH

(March 3, 2019) – Led by two goals and two assists by Tommy Keane, the Rollins men’s lacrosse team earned a 10-5 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon at Charger Field. The win marks the second straight for the Tars, and advances their record to 3-1 o the season, while the Chargers drop to 1-4 overall. Behind Keane’s four points, Ryan Dunn earned three with two goals and one assist, while Kyle Portera registered two goals of his own.  Both Greg Taicher and Joey Cinque earned a goal and an assist apiece, while Jackson Colling and Parker Mosacknotched one goal each.  Adding one assist each were Blake Buell and Grant Long, completing the Tars’ 10 goal, seven assist afternoon.  Kyle Sudol won 6-of-12 faceoff attempts while earning six ground balls, while Cam Reeves won 3-of-6 attempts at the faceoff-x.  Both Chase Snyder and Harrison Bluesteinearned a team best three caused turnovers, with Bluestein adding four ground balls, and Snyder earning one.  Landon Salieplayed 45 minutes in goal, facing seven shots and earning four saves while allowing three goals.  Will Eckert played a total of 15 minutes in cage, facing three shots where he earned one save while allowing two goals. The Chargers saw a team high two goals from Luke Levette, while Preston Deno, Colton Nall, and Nicholas Ranta scored one each.  Earning the Chargers’ lone assist on the afternoon was Joseph Stuber, who also added a team high four ground balls.  Jake Fowler was the Chargers’ primary faceoff specialist, winning 9-of-18 attempts on the day.  Joshua Hardin notched a team best two caused turnovers.  In goal, Zak Welsh earned a save percentage of .583 a he made 14 saves while allowing 10 goals in 60 minutes of action. How it Happened: Rollins jumped out to a three goal lead in the first six minutes, but two goals by the Chargers pulled them to within one with 4:58 on the clock in the first quarter.  Rollins closed out the period with a late goal by Taicher with 48 ticks on the clock to give the Tars a 4-2 lead entering into the second quarter, and extended their advantage to three once again with a goal by Portera a minute and a half into the quarter.  UAH found the back of the net three minutes later to pull to within two, closing out the first half with the Tars holding onto a 5-3 lead.  Rollins held the Chargers scoreless in the third quarter while tacking on four goals of their own, holding on to a 9-3 lead entering into the final period of play.  UAH outscored the Tars 2-1 in the final 15 minutes, but could not overcome the Tars’ lead as they won their second straight by defeating the Chargers by a score of 10-5.   • Rollins received votes on both the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20, as well as the USILA/Warrior and New Balance Division II Poll this week.
  • Tommy Keane notched a new career high in overall points with four.  His two goals and two assists both match career highs for goals and assists scored in a game.
  • Rollins leads the all-time series with the Chargers, 2-0.  Their first matchup between the two programs was on March 26, 2018, when the Tars defeated UAH by a final score of 16-10 at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.
