SGR – SA Ends Belen’s Dream Season with the 14-4 Win!

via Submit Game Recap, with photos by Seth Austin   The Regional Championship between Belen Jesuit and Saint Andrew’s School pitted two undefeated teams against each other vying for a trip to the Final Four. A lightning delay pushed the initial faceoff back by about an hour. However, as the weather cleared (there was a light drizzle for most of the game) the fans showed up! The atmosphere was electric, and both sides were well represented in the stands. In the first quarter, Oscar Fernandez got the scoring started with an inside finish on a feed from Victor Rosado to put the Wolverines up 1-0. Moments later Tristan Moss scored to tie the game up for the Scots. The rest of the quarter was back and forth action. Both defenses held strong. Belen’s defense was able to cause multiple turnovers while the Saint Andrew’s goalie Gunnar Schwarz (9 total saves) took away several scoring attempts.      Much of the second quarter consisted of longer offensive possession on both sides. Teams worked patiently trying to penetrate the outstanding defenses. As the quarter progressed, the Scots were able to settle in and outscored their opponents 3-0 in the second quarter to take a 4-1 halftime lead.  Starting the second half, the adjustments made by the Belen coaching staff paid off. They were able to go on a 3-goal run of their own. The last goal was a Fernandes outside shot that knotted the score up 4 with 6:29 left in the third quarter. The tie lasted for a total of 7 seconds, as faceoff athlete Nick Golobov won the draw for the Scots and buried a goal in transition. From that point, it seemed that Golubov’s work at the faceoff dot started to take over. To finish the quarter, the Scots scored 3 more goals to enter the fourth quarter up 8-4.     In the fourth quarter, the Scots were able to extend the lead to the final score of 14-4. The game marked the end of an amazing season for the Belen Jesuit Wolverines, finishing 19-1. Coach Alan Bellando has built quite the program! Congrats to the 18 seniors who contributed so much to the success this season.  For Saint Andrew’s (14-0), Coach Tony Seaman and the team will continue on. They will face Canterbury next Friday in Kissimmee.     Team Statistics Faceoffs:  Saint Andrew’s 16-5 Shots:  SA 33-16 Shots on Goal:  SA 20-13 Turnovers:  SA 20-17 Penalties:  SA 10-8     Individual Statistics   Saint Andrew’s Will Adams 4G/2A Jack Schulte 2G/2A Jo Jo Pores 2G/1A Quin McGowan  2G Tristan Moss 2G Sean Jordan  1G Nick Golubov 1G, 16/20 Face-offs Anthony Borodiak  1A Kurt Schwarz  1A Zach Brent 1A Gunnar Schwarz with 9 saves     Belen Jesuit Oscar Fernandez 2G Victor Rosado 1G/2A Israel Salabarria 1G Zachary Acosta 1A Andrew Canela with 6 saves
