SSC Men: Saint Leo Men’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Rollins, Losing 15-13

  via Saint Leo press release   BOX SCORE WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s lacrosse team out-shot Rollins; 43-34 and placed more on target; 27-23, but came up short at Rollins, 15-13, in the Lions first game on the road. Seven Lions contributed points paced by junior attacker Evan Wray’s career-high five points. The Port Coquitlam, B.C. native netted four goals off eight shots and tallied an assist. He also registered a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers. Reece Hrycan scored a hat-trick, a career-high performance from the junior midfielder who also hails from Port Coquitlam, B.C. Meanwhile, Tyler Eames tallied four points scoring a season-high two goals paired with two assists. Play-maker Matt Shand also earned four points from four assists. Saint Leo went 9-for-31 at the face led by Jordan Williams who went 9-for-25. Gunnar Luckoski was forced to take the loss in the net. The senior eight saves after 60 minutes of action. Kadin Schillo netted his first collegiate goal, to get Saint Leo on the board. It would be the first of two he would put in during the trip to Winter Park, Fla. Devin Sparks punched in one before the end of the first to bring the score to 4-2. Each of the first quarter goals were assisted by Shand. Evan Wray continued the momentum into the second quarter, scoring the Lions third straight. Rollins answered with four more goals, with a goal by Justin Williams to break up the Tars offensive push into pairs of goals. The Lions headed into halftime down by four with a score of 8-4. The hosts came back and tallied another one to open the third. Both teams exchanged a pair of goals for the five-goal quarter. Leading up to the fourth quarter, Saint Leo had managed to score two per quarter. The Green and Gold’s offense came alive in the last 15 minutes, celebrating seven goals. Schillo did the opening honors again, starting the last segment with a goal, assisted again by Shand.  The Tars put two more in to move the score to 13-7 with 8:49 remaining. Saint Leo slashed the gap down to three with a trio of goals featuring a Hrycan/Eames sandwich as Hrycan tallied the first and third and Eames finished the play set up by Evan Wray in-between. Thirty seconds later, Rollins snuck in a goal but that didn’t stop the Hrycan, Eames, Wray offensive dynamics. Down by three at 14-10 with five minutes left on the clock, Schillo set up Hrycan’s hat-trick. After three minutes of silence, Saint Leo celebrated again as Wray found the back of the net, assisted by Eames. The efforts brought the game within two at 14-12. Despite the late offensive burst, Saint Leo came up short as both teams would go on to tally one last goal apiece for the 15-13 final. Up Next Saint Leo will head to Florida Southern on Thursday, April 8 for a 4 p.m. The meeting between the Lions and Moccasins was originally scheduled on March 24 was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
