#21 Lions Roll Past Sailfish; Kaylah Walstad Becomes Program All-time Assist Leader

  WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 21 Saint Leo Lions rolled past the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 26-6, in Saturday’s Sunshine State Conference game. The decision extends the program’s best season start and all-time season win record to 13-0 overall, 2-0 in the SSC. Kaylah Walstad became the program’s newest all-time assist leader recording four assists against the Sailfish for a career tally of 49 assists.  Meanwhile, Leslie Ferguson broke a game record with 10 points and Sabrina Sanacorereached a career milestone of 100 points. Palm Beach Atlantic snagged an early 3-2 lead at 19:45 in the first half. Saint Leo reclaimed the lead and earned a seven-goal gap off an eight-goal run. The Lions went on another six-goal run after the Sailfish netted their fourth goal for a halftime score of 16-4. Saint Leo cruised to the conference victory recording another eight-goal run; 24-4. Palm Beach Atlantic snapped the streak and registered two consecutive goals. The Lions returned the favor, ending the game on a two-goal run.   • Kaylah Walstad became the program’s newest all-time assist record holder after tallying four assists at PBA. The play-maker has registered 49 career assists.
  • Leslie Ferguson continues to build onto the program’s all-time leading scoring record, now with 130 career goals. Her 10-point performance reset the team’s most points in a game record.
  • Sabrina Sanacore’s five points earned a career milestone mark of 100 points in West Palm Beach, Fla.
  • Two Lions have scored in every game this season; Janee DeLuca and Leslie Ferguson.
  • Under the direction of Hansen, the Lions 13-0 season start continues to break the program’s best season start.

Women’s Lacrosse Defeated By No. 21 Saint Leo

 

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse hung with No. 21 Saint Leo early before the Lions pulled away for a 26-6 victory.

The Sailfish held an early 3-2 lead as Grace Bartlinskiscored three times in the first 10:15. Twice she found the back of the net unassisted and once she got a feed from Kiki Cinotti. Moments later the Lions tied the score as they began an eight-goal run that put things out of reach in the first half. PBA tallied another goal before half as Kate LeBlanc scored but the Lions led 16-4 at the break.

In the second half Shayna Rogers and Julia Del Carmen both scored for the ‘Fish. Brooke Schoch led the way with three caused turnovers while Abigal Nehringcollected five ground balls. Eleven different players were credited with a ground ball for PBA. Nehring also made nine saves in goal.

The Lions took 40 shots in the game while PBA managed 19. The Lions narrowly led in draw controls, taking 18 of the 33.

PBA is back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech at 7 p.m.
