Chrisco’s Career Day Leads #22 Women’s Lacrosse Past PBA Saturday

  BOX SCORE WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 22 Saint Leo women’s lacrosse poured in 11-second half goals to get past Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday afternoon behind a career day from Delaney Chrisco at PBA Lacrosse Field. Chrisco scored a career-high six goals with one assist to move her season count to 24 and her 100th career point. The win, marks the third straight over the Sailfish and second straight win for the Green and Gold this week after knocking off Florida Tech Wednesday 14-7. Delaney Chrisco scored six goals on 12 shots, eight on frame, to set her career-high, surpassing her five-goal performances in 2018 against Belmont Abbey (March 2) and Assumption (March 9). Chrisco added one assist on the day for a game-high seven points. Now sitting at 24 season points, Chrisco now has 100 career-points, moving her into seventh all-time in program history in career points. “Delaney has been playing very well for us offensively this year and today we really needed her to get us going, and she delivered,” stated fourth year head coach Caitlin Hansen. “It was only fitting that she should hit a career milestone in the process. We are young offensively, so her IQ and experience has been crucial to our success this season.” Ashlee Wilsynski and Fiona McLaughlin each netted three goals while Reagan Buhrman scored two. Three other Lions found the back of the net with a goal apiece in Lia Lamendola, Meghan Bomleny, and Cassidy Passaro. Bomleny led the team in assists with three while Lamendola dished out two. Along with Chrisco, four other Lions tallied an assist in Wilsynski, McLaughlin, Cassidy Passaro, and Sierra Yoder. Between the pipes, Emma Crafton played 38:15 with five saves while Rachel Smythe, who earned the win, played the remaining 21:45 and tallied five saves as well. Saint Leo would climb out to a 3-1 lead with goals from Chrisco again and Fiona McLaughin. After a quick answer from the ‘Fish, Meghan Bomleny’s goal at the 14:46 mark pushed it back to a two goal lead. PBA wouldn’t stop fighting and answered six-seconds later and made it 4-3. After back-to-back goals from Kiki Cinotti, PBA took a 5-4 lead at the 9:47 mark. Chrisco’s hattrick drew the game even at six but a goal with 36-ticks left saw the half end at 7-6 in favor of Palm Beach Alantic. Quick adjustments from the Lions as the Green and Gold Lia Lamendola found Chrisco for the tying goal. Ashlee Wilsynski went back-to-back for a quick 9-7 Saint Leo lead. The Sailfish would tie things at nine, but the Lions answered with a five-goal run with goals from Reagan Buhrman, twice, Lamendola, Chrisco, and Fiona McLaughlin, 14-9 Lions. The Sailfish would fight to the end outscoring the Green and Gold 5-3 but 11 second-half goals allowed for Saint Leo to set off into the sunset with a 17-14 win. Up Next The Lions return to action on Wednesday, April 14 in the Saint Leo Turf Stadium. The midweek conference matchup features the second meeting between No. 10 Saint Leo and No.7 Tampa. The teams last tangoed in a non-conference season opener on March 20 in Tampa, Fla. The then No. 9 Spartans escaped the No. 20 Lions second half rally in a tight 10-9 final. Women’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short vs No. 22 Saint Leo

  WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach women’s lacrosse team looked to put No. 22-ranked Saint Leo on upset alert when it hosted the Lions on Saturday. The Sailfish hung with the Lions for the majority of the 60 minutes as PBA (1-3, 1-3 SSC) even held a 7-6 lead at halftime. Unfortunately for the ‘Fish, a big second half on offense for the Lions put the ‘Fish away, 17-14. Anna Laskaris and Kiki Cinotti led the ‘Fish with four goals each with Cinotti adding four assists to her stat line. SLU (3-3, 2-2 SSC) frustrated PBA’s Grace Bartlinski, who was the host’s leading goal scorer entering the game, holding her to just one goal. Kaelin DeNeui and Sara Metheny each notched their first career goals in the game. The first half was very even as the lead changed hands three times. Saint Leo struck early, getting out to a 3-1 lead through the first 10 minutes of action. PBA’s offense found its rhythm in the final 15 minutes of the period. While trailing 4-2, the Sailfish rattled off a 3-0 run, kickstarted by DeNeui and punctuated by a pair of goals by Cinotti. Saint Leo did not stay behind for long, answering with a goal at the seven-minute mark. PBA was determined to keep its lead, taking every punch thrown by the Lions as Laskaris regained the lead for the ‘Fish with six minutes to go. With the game tied at six, Nicole Townsend found the back of the net with 30 seconds left to give PBA a 7-6 advantage going into the break. The Lions came out of halftime with attitude, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 9-7 lead. Goals from Metheny and Bartlinski tied the game at nine, but SLU pulled away with a 5-0 run and did not look back for the rest of the contest. The Sailfish struggled to get the consecutive stops they needed to make their run. PBA had hopes of a comeback as CInotti scored to cut the deficit to three, but it was too little too late for PBA as it fell, 17-14. PBA outshot the Lions in the contest 34-31 in the game while dominating the draw control, 22-11. Abigal Nehring handled duties in goal for the ‘Fish. She totaled six saves with six ground balls. In their next game, the Sailfish host Florida Tech on Wednesday. The game at the Rinker Athletic campus is scheduled for 7 p.m.
