Reber Earns 130th FSC Victory as Mocs Win 20th SSC Game on Senior Day

  LAKELAND, FL – On the day Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse honored it’s last remaining members of the 2016 national championship squad, the Moccasins defeated Embry-Riddle 21-10 at Moccasin Field on Saturday afternoon. The Mocs (11-2, 3-1 SSC) used double-digit goal totals in each half to send the Eagles (9-5, 1-2 SSC) back to Daytona Beach with their fifth loss of the season. Riley Bannatyne and Grace Glinecki each recorded four goals to led the Mocs offense. Marina Jozokos and Aubriana Benedettotallied three goals while Brenna Smith added on a pair of goals. Five additional Mocs found the back of the net. HOW IT HAPPENED  •Jozokos found the back of the net first to give the home team a 1-0 advantage at the 26:22 mark of the first half. Bannatyne added her first goal of the game in less than a minute to put the Mocs up 2-0. Gillian Greenberg, who scored the first three goals for the visitors, put the Eagles on the board at the 22:57 to cut the Florida Southern lead in half. Glinecki scored the next two goals for the Mocs with a Greenberg goal in between as A. Benedetto followed with a goal on a feed from Lizzy Lynch to put the Mocs up 5-2. After being awarded a free position shot following a yellow card to the Eagles Elizabeth Ninesling, Bannatyne put the first of two, on the day, man-up goals past the Eagles keeper. Dani Bursingerrecorded her only goal of the day to give Florida Southern a 7-3 advantage at the 12:29 mark of the first half. Embry-Riddle took the ensuing draw control and put it in the back of the net to start a 4-0 run by the Eagles to tie the game at 7-7. Jozokos added a goal for the Mocs to give them a lead they would never let up for the remaining 34 minutes. Glinecki would add on two goals for the Mocs including one as time expired to give the Mocs a 10-7 lead at the half. • Bannatyne and A. Benedetto each added goals in less than a 30-second span to put the Mocs up by five. Florida Southern’s defense allowed just three goals in the second half as the offense went on to score 11 goals. ERAU’s Mya Watson scored the first of the three Eagles goals of the second half at the 26:22 mark. A. Benedetto and Jozokos added two more goals in less than a minute for a six-goal lead by the Mocs. McKenzie Jackson recorded her third goal of the game for the ninth Eagles goal. Smith took a free position shot and put it past the Eagles goalie for the 19th goal of her freshmen season. Ashley Norberg would follow that up with her only goal of the game off a feed from Bursinger for a 17-9 lead. Watson added on the 10th goal for the visitors before freshmen Katie Yeagle tallied her fifth goal of the season. Catherine DeKorte put a free position shot in the back of the net for the Mocs 19th goal following a yellow card to the Mocs’s Smith for the team’s first man-down goal of the season. With just under four minute remaining in the second half Bannatyne added her fourth goal of the game to put the Mocs up by ten and start the running clock. Smith and Molly Berend teamed up for the 21st goal for the Mocs at the 1:25 mark of the second half. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern improved to 1-0 all-time against Embry-Riddle. Florida Southern is victorious in both Lakeland and Daytona Beach.* • Florida Southern won 17 of 32 draw controls. • Florida Southern picked up 31 ground balls to 18 by Embry-Riddle. The Mocs converted 21 successful clears on 24 attempts. • The Mocs fired off 46 shots, 35 of which were on goal. 24 of the Eagles 21 shots were on goal. Florida Southern caused 16 turnovers as Embry-Riddle had 24 turnovers on the day. • Head Coach Kara Reber improved her coaching record at Florida Southern to 130-24 and holds a 198-72 mark in her career. • Florida Southern won its 20th conference game and now holds an impressive 20-2 all-time record in SSC play. UP NEXT • Florida Southern will host Embry-Riddle (April 6) for senior day. The Mocs final four games of the season are all on the road as they head to Saint Leo (April 9). FSC will take a trip to Ohio for its final two non-conference games at Tiffin (April 12) and Findlay (April 14). Women’s Lacrosse Stumbles Against No. 8 Florida Southern

  LAKELAND, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team suffered a 21-10 loss to eighth-ranked Florida Southern in Sunshine State Conference play at Moccasin Field on Saturday. The loss drops the Eagles to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the SSC, while the Lady Mocs improved to 11-2 and 3-1 in league play. Gillian Greenberg matched her season-high scoring total with four goals to lead the Eagle offense and reach the 100-point plateau for her career. McKenzie Jackson, who added three goals, won seven draw controls, recorded three caused turnovers and picked up five ground balls in the Eagle effort. Mary Catherine Kreider went the distance in goal for the Eagles and hauled a career-best 14 saves in the loss. Florida Southern scored the first two goals of the game and led 3-1 early in the contest, but Greenberg found the back of the net twice for the Blue and Gold to cut the lead to 3-2. The Lady Mocs went on a 4-1 run to increase their lead to 7-3. Following FSC’s seventh score Jackson won the first of four straight Eagle draws, and the Blue and Gold netted four unanswered goals to knot things up at 7-7 with 8:37 left in the first half. However, the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net again in the first frame and surrendered three goals to the Lady Mocs in the last 7:21 to go into the halftime break trailing 10-7. FSC was the more dominant team offensively in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 7-2 in the first 11 minutes of the half. Mya Watson scored the Eagles’ 10^th goal of the day at the 18:09 mark, but that was the last time the Eagles would find the back of the net as the eighth-ranked Lady Mocs defense held the Eagles scoreless for the remainder of the game while the offense added four more goals to its tally to seal the win. Riley Bannatyne and Grace Gilnecki scored four goals apiece for a Florida Southern team that ranks third in the SSC in scoring at 18.31 goals per game. The Eagles’ next game will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday when they host Florida Tech in another Sunshine State Conference game.
