#8 Spartans Take Down Florida Tech
BOX SCORE MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 8 University of Tampa Spartans women’s lacrosse team earned their second road win of the season with a 10-5 takedown of the Florida Tech Panthers. INSIDE THE MATCHUP: Final: #8 Tampa 10, Florida Tech 5 Records: Tampa 4-1 (3-1 SSC), Florida Tech 0-5 (0-4 SSC) Location: Florida Tech Panther Stadium | Melbourne, Fla. HOW IT HAPPENED: FIRST HALF Attacker Lauren McNeill needed only 30 seconds to score the games opening goal off the Olivia Mott assist. Tampa’s offensive effort was on full display in the early showing with the Spartans cruising to an early 4-0 lead with goals by Cece Colombo (unassisted), Mott (assisted by McNeill), and Mott again (unassisted). Florida Tech responded, netting two goals in just over a minute to cut Tampa’s lead 4-2 with 8:55 left in the first half. Cece Colombo added another goal a minute-and-a-half later for her second of the game, again unassisted. 34 seconds later Freshman Gracie Colombo scored her first career goal, unassisted, to put Tampa back up by four. The Panthers scored the half’s last goal to reduce the Spartans lead to three. Score: 6-3 Tampa SECOND HALF Genie Santarpio, the Spartan’s leading goal scorer, tallied the second half’s opening goal off a helper from Cece Colombo to put Tampa up 7-3. Mott added her third a minute later, 8-3 Tampa. Florida Tech answered, 8-4 with 19:51 left. Gracie Colombo scored her second career goal shortly after, unassisted, 9-4 Tampa. Tech again responded, before Emma McLoughlin scored the games last goal at the 9:28 mark. Score: 10-4 Tampa INSIDE THE STATS:- Cece Colombo continues to pile up points this season, adding three to her team-leading 19 against Florida Tech (2G, 1A).
- Genie Santarpio picked up her team high 10th goal of the season against the Panthers.
- Freshman Gracie Colombo scored the first two goals of her career.
- Olivia Mott‘s hattrick has her in third place for goals scored this season. She also added an assist.
