#22 Women’s Lacrosse Dispatches Florida Tech; Four Lions Celebrate Hat tricks

  BOX SCORE SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 22 Saint Leo Lions dispatched the Florida Tech Panthers 14-7 at University Turf Stadium on Wednesday. It was a bucket-HAT kind of day in the Florida Sunshine. The non-conference game saw four Lions earn hat tricks as the Green and Gold swept the two-game season series over the Panthers. Delaney Chrisco and Ashlee Wilsynski each netted four goals in four-point performances. In addition to Chrisco’s four goals off seven shots, Chrisco added three draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers to her day. Meanwhile, Lia Lamendola put up a career-high four points scoring a hat trick and an assist. Fiona McLaughlin found the back of the net three times as the team’s leading goal scorer with 18 on the season. Meghan Bomleny dished out a career-high four assists as the game’s biggest playmaker. Off the draw, Ashley Salvett paced the Lions with four draws. The standout defender also collected a game-high five ground balls and caused a turnover. Goalkeeper Emma Crafton earned a career-high 11 saves raising her record in the cage to 2-3. The Naples, Florida native faced 21 shots and helped the Lions on the ride going 16-for-19 in clears. Florida Tech got on the board with back-to-back goals but was answered by another four-goal by the Lions, 8-2. Both teams exchanged a goal before the break recording a 9-3 halftime score. The Panthers outscored the Lions 3-1 in the opening 10 minutes which brought the game within four at 10-6. Wilsynski, Chrisco, Lamendola, and McLaughlin each took their respective turns finding the back of the net in the last ten minutes. The offensive burst outscored Florida Tech 4-1 to secure the seven-point win, 14-7. Up Next On Saturday, April 10, Saint Leo will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish. Florida Tech Falters on the Road

  Panthers fall to No. 22 Saint Leo 14-7 on the road Wednesday SAINT LEO, Fla. – Florida Tech women’s lacrosse lost to No. 22 Saint Leo 14-7 on Wednesday afternoon on the road. Down six goals at the break, the Panthers were able to trim their deficit to four with just over 10 minutes remaining before the Lions pulled away for the win. Mollie Kaplan had two goals, three ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover. Caroline MacLeod recorded two goals, three draw controls and two ground balls. Morgan Leonard, Karly Liebendorfer and Kyla Vendemia recorded one goal, apiece. Millie Hurt finished with three draw controls, and Maggie Reed collected two ground balls. Emily Harris made eight saves in goal and picked up four ground balls. Saint Leo jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage with 24:31 to go in the first half. The Panthers responded with consecutive free position goals by Kaplan and MacLeod to bring the margin to 4-2 with 19:53 remaining. The Lions mounted another quick four-goal run to build their lead to 8-2 with 9:46 left in the half. MacLeod beat her defender on the right wing and scored her second of the day to make it an 8-3 game with 7:44 to go. SLU scored again with 1:44 left in the half and carried a six-goal advantage into halftime. After a slow start to the second half, Vendemia opened the scoring with her second goal of the season to cut the Panthers’ deficit to 9-4 with 20:06 remaining. The Lions answered less than a minute later to push their lead back to five. Leonard and Kaplan scored consecutive goals to trim the deficit to 10-6 with 10:45 left but SLU answered with back-to-back goals to regain a six-goal advantage with just over eight minutes to go. Liebendorfer recorded her first career goal to make the score 12-7 with 7:35 remaining. The Lions tallied the final two goals of the game to seal their victory and earn the season sweep of the Panthers. Saint Leo finished with more shots, 30-21, and ground balls, 23-16, while Florida Tech collected more draw controls, 13-10. The Panthers were successful on 9-14 clear attempts while the Lions converted 16-19 of their clears. Next up for Florida Tech is a road game at Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, April 14, in West Palm Beach, Fla. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field. Panthers Can’t Solve Saint Leo

  Excerpt: Florida Tech women’s Lacrosse is still in search of their first win of the season after a 14-7 loss at No. 22 Saint Leo on Wednesday. The Panthers have played a very difficult schedule suffering losses to ranked teams, including No. 4 Florida Southern, No. 7 Tampa, No. 11 Rollins, and now two losses to Saint Leo. Their other loss came in overtime to Lynn. That is in no way to make excuses for the Panthers as everyone in the conference is playing the same schedule, but the Panthers had to deal with powerhouse teams, mainly on the road right from the jump. Four of the six Panthers games have been on the road. Mollie Kaplan and Caroline MacLeod had two goals each to lead the Panthers. Kyla Vendemia, Morgan Leonard, and Karly Liebendorfer each had single tallies. The Panthers did not register an assist in this game. Tech goalie Emily Harris made eight saves for the Panthers while her counterpart Emma Crafton made 11 saves.   Read the rest HERE
