via Stetson press release   Stetson lacrosse head coach Christy Leach today announced the addition of nine players to the roster for the 2021 season. “We are excited to welcome this class to our program,” Leach said. “They bring a diverse skill set and we can’t wait for them to work with our returners. Most of them missed all or part of their season in the spring, and they are itching to get started. I’m looking forward to them making an immediate impact on our program.” The nine new Hatters are: Maddie Dunn (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Taylor Gehen (Hamburg, N.Y.), Grace Henslee (Salisbury, Md.), Sydney Heimann (Kennett Square, Pa.), Ashley Huff (Canton, Conn.), Jordyn Humphrey (Green Township, N.J.), Juliana O’Hara (Bayport, N.Y.), Saige Roe (Palm City, Fla.), Kali Waugh (Orlando, Fla.). Madie Dunn – Bay Shore, N.Y. (Bay Shore HS) Multi-talented athlete ay Bay Shore High … lettered in track and swimming in addition to lacrosse … recorded 32 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers as a senior … also added 18 clears … helped lead Bay Shore to a Long Island championship in track, earning all-county honors … played at the same high school as former Hatter Sarah Trupp. Leach on Dunn: Madie brings a great lacrosse IQ to our defense as well as athleticism. She will be a threat against other attackers and transitioning the ball out of our defense. Taylor Gehen – Hamburg, N.Y. (Frontier HS) Transfer from Canisius College … played the previous season at Towson … begins her Stetson career with sophomore eligibility … 2-time USA Lacrosse All-American in high school, helping Frontier High to a pair of Section IV championships … team captain as a senior … three-time all-league selection … set school records for most career goals and points … also lettered in ice hockey and soccer. Leach on Gehen: Taylor will bring a lot of great experience to our program. As a natural lefty, she will be a threat in all aspects of the midfield and I’m eager to see her add to our already deep midfield group. Grace Henslee – Salisbury, Md. (Parkside HS) Named first-team all-conference as a sophomore and junior at Parkside … scored 23 goals and added seven assists as a junior … also lettered in field hockey, earning Offensive MVP three times … played club lacrosse for Saltwater Dolphins. Leach on Henslee: Grace is a smooth midfielder that will be a big threat between the 30’s. I’m thrilled to get her mixed in with our returning midfielders and for her to be a threat with the ball. Sydney Heimann – Kennett Square, Pa. (Kennett HS) All-conference selection as a goalie at Kennett High … made 170 saves as a junior, helping lead team to the district playoffs … also lettered in soccer. Leach on Heimann: Sydney is an unorthodox goalie who has a great presence in the goal. She is quick with her hands and feet and we look forward to getting her comfortable with our defense quickly this fall. Ashley Huff – Canton, Conn. (Canton HS) Was a three-time All-State selection, including first-team honors twice, at Canton High … scored 138 career goals, including 62 as a junior (senior season was wiped out due to COVID-19) … helped lead Canton to three straight conference championships … represented the United States at the Lacrosse National Women’s High School tournament … also an accomplished field hockey player, twice earning all-conference honors. Leach on Huff: Ashley is another solid midfielder joining our program. She is dangerous on both ends of the field and I’m excited for her to get acclimated to our offensive and defensive styles. Jordyn Humphrey – Green Township, N.J. (Blair Academy) Multi-sport student-athlete at Blair Academy … four-year varsity player in lacrosse and field hockey … team captain of lacrosse and field hockey … helped lead field hockey team to state championship final … led the lacrosse team in scoring in her final season … played club lacrosse for CLC Elite coached by Crysti Foote. Leach on Humphrey: Jordyn is a huge threat with the ball. She dodges hard and gets to goal and I look forward to watching her mesh with our attacking group quickly. Juliana O’Hara – Bayport, N.Y. (Bayport-Blue Point HS) Scored 72 goals in three seasons while playing for Bayport-Blue Point … helped lead Bayport to a county championship as a junior … also played field hockey, earning all-county and all-conference honors … played club lacrosse for Long Island Legacy. Leach on O’Hara: Juliana doesn’t get rattled and she will add another calm presence to our attacking unit. I’m excited for her to start building connections with our attackers and midfielders, and can’t wait for her to get comfortable on our attack. Saige Roe – Palm City, Fla. (Martin County HS) First-team all-region and all-district selection at Martin County HS … helped lead Martin County to four straight district runner-up finishes … sister of current Hatter Quinn Roe. Leach on Roe: I’ve known Saige as long as I have been at Stetson and it is surreal to finally have her here on campus as a student-athlete. Saige is a strong midfielder with a great presence on both ends of the field, and her niche is her tenacity in the midfield. Kali Waugh – Orlando, Fla. (Lyman HS) Was a two-time team MVP also notching team Rookie of the Year at Lyman HS … participated on the weightlifting team …  junior year advanced to regionals … played club lacrosse for Lax Maniax. Leach on Waugh: Kali is a strong and tough defender. She will be a big presence in our defense, especially one-on-one. I’m eager to have her play with our returners and get comfortable with our defense.
