Strong First Half Not Enough as Stetson Hatters Fall to Coastal Carolina 13-8

  via Stetson press release – photo by Steve Simoneau   BOX SCORE DeLand, Fla. — Erin Collier recorded her second consecutive hat trick, but Coastal Carolina defeated Stetson 13-8 Sunday afternoon at the Athletic Training Center. Collier was one of eight seniors honored by the Hatters prior to the game.  Stetson also recognized Sarah FlattQuinn RoeRiley ReaganAnne Ryan LanzMarina RotellaTaylor Zuberer, and Jaclynn Levy for their contributions to the program. A strong opening 30 minutes saw Stetson (1-7) take a 4-3 lead into the break. Roe and Rotella each scored once and Collier scored twice, including an unassisted goal with 13 seconds left in the half. Coastal Carolina (10-6) scored the first eight goals of the second half to take control of the game.  Stetson netted the next three markers as Jessica Duggan, Collier, and Reagan found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 11-7 with just under 10 minutes to play. The Chanticleers held on down the stretch, however, despite one more Stetson goal from Jacklyn Lavoie. Kiera McCarthy made 11 saves in goal, including seven in the first half. She also collected six ground balls. Stetson went a perfect 2-for-2 in free position shots. Collier finished the weekend with six goals, raising her season total to nine.  Rotella scored her 20th goal of the season Sunday and the 88th goal of her career, putting her one back of Taylor Patrizi for the all-time school record.  Riley Reagan recorded her 96th career assist. Roe extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games. The Hatters will now prepare for the 2021 ASUN Lacrosse Championship on May 6-8 in Kennesaw, Ga.  Stetson’s semifinal opponent has not yet been determined.
