Tampa Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2019 Team Captains

  via Tampa press release   TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team has announced captains for the 2019 season. Seniors Jack TyrrellAndrew Kewand Luke Robideaux along with sole junior Ross Dickerson will guide the Spartans for the upcoming season. Tyrell, a defender from Medford, N.J. was an All SSC Second Team selection his junior season, in addition to being named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and earning the DII ADA Academic Achievement Award. In 2018 he started in all 20 games for the Spartans and ended the season fourth on the team with 39 ground balls. Additionally, he logged seven caused turnovers and had one goal against Tusculum (2/5). Kew, one of the most decorated men’s lacrosse players in the history of the program, is a two-time USILA All-American, a two-time All-SSC First Team selection and one-time Second-Team selection. As a freshman, he earned the SSC Freshman of the Year award, in addition to being named to the All-SSC Freshman Team. A 6-3 offensive powerhouse from Oakville, Ontario he has started in nearly every game in his time as a Spartan. Last year alone, he led the team in goals and assists with 50 and 20 respectively. Additionally, he recorded 26 ground balls and had six caused turnovers. Robideaux, a 6-3 defender from Lafayette, La. Is a three-year member of the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. He finished last season third on the team in ground balls with 44, in addition to stating 17 caused turnovers, and one goal against SSC foe, Florida Tech (3/21). Dickerson, the loan junior selected as a team captain, started in 19 games for the Spartans last season. As a sophomore, he earned a spot on the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, received the DII ADA Academic Achievement Award, was an SSC All-Championship Team selection, an All-SSC First Team selection, and a USILA All-America South Region Second Team selection. He is the Spartans leading face-off specialist, winning 267 of his 354 attempts. Additionally, he led the team last year in ground balls with 153, and he netted three goals. UT will play 17 regular-season contests, including nine home contests and eight Sunshine State Conference matchups. The Spartans open up the season against Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3:00 p.m. before taking on SSC rival, Florida Southern on Feb. 16.
