UF Women: 2021 Lacrosse Schedule Unveiled

  via UF press release   GAINESVILLE, Fla. – With Florida lacrosse’s 12th season on the horizon, the 2021 schedule has been announced by head coach Amanda O’Leary. The Gators have 17 regular season games scheduled during the 2021 campaign – including seven contests at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Details on fan capacity and health and safety protocols for the 2021 season will be released at a later date. Florida is coming off a 6-2 season in 2020 after the campaign was cut short due to COVID-19. The squad finished ranked eighth in the nation according to the IWLCA poll and knocked off two Top-3 teams in Maryland and Stony Brook. During the 2021 season, the Gators will face two teams that finished in the final IWLCA Poll of 2020: UNC (No. 1) and Loyola (No. 3). The Gators open their slate with eight-straight road games, the first of which is a matchup against Louisville on Feb. 13 at 11:30 a.m. UF then faces off against the top-ranked team in the nation in 2020, taking on the North Carolina Tar Heels on Feb. 19 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Florida heads to Kennesaw State for a midweek game on Feb. 23, with opening draw set for 11 a.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Closing out the month of February, the Gators travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on the Loyola Greyhounds on Feb. 28. Kicking off the month of March, Florida has back-to-back in-state road matchups. The Gators will face Stetson on March 6 in DeLand, Fla., followed by a matchup with the Jacksonville Dolphins at D.B. Milne Field on March 13. American Athletic Conference play is up next for the Gators and the league voted on a new format of play for the 2021 season. Each team will play all five conference opponents twice in the span of one weekend, securing 10 overall conference matchups. The AAC season begins when Florida travels to Temple to take on the Owls on March 19 and March 21. The Gators finally make their home debut at Donald R. Dizney Stadium on March 26/28 when the squad takes on the Cincinnati Bearcats. UF remains home for the next two conference series, facing East Carolina on April 1/3 and Vanderbilt on April 16/18. The Gators have gone 96-19 (.835) at The Diz in the history of the program (spanning 11 seasons). Florida closes out conference play at Old Dominion on April 23/25, the first matchup between the two teams in program history. This is the Monarchs first season as a member of the American Athletic Conference. To end the regular season, UF hosts Liberty at the Diz for a midweek game slated for a 1 p.m. opening draw. The Gators are set to host the 2021 AAC Championships, with the semifinals scheduled for Thursday, May 6. The championship game will take place on Saturday, May 8 at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
