Webber Women’s Lacrosse Inaugural Season Ends Against #2 Cumberlands in MSC Quarterfinals

(April 22, 2021) – The first ever season of competition for the Webber International University women’s lacrosse team came to an end in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals on Thursday as the Warriors fell 26-1 against No. 2 nationally-ranked the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). This is the first season that the MSC has split into a north and south division, with each team playing against divisional opponents twice during the regular season and then playing cross-division opponents in the postseason. The Warriors were the fourth-seed from the south division while Cumberlands was the top-seed from the north. Webber trailed 17-0 at halftime and was being outshot 22-5. Four of Webber’s five shots in the first half were by Kaitlyn Patterson. Megan Dennis scored the lone goal of the game for Webber with 15:23 remaining; it was her team-leading fifth goal of the season. In the end, Patterson finished with five total shot attempts, four of which were on goal, and matched goalkeeper Ashley Bosch with a team-high three groundballs. Charlee Lutton led the Warriors with five draw controls and two caused turnovers while she and Malia Domingo both added two groundballs as well. Webber finished its inaugural season 0-7 overall while Cumberlands remained undefeated at 13-0, and will now advance to the MSC semifinals. SEASON OVERVIEW: In their inaugural season, the Warriors made the most of their opportunities and were active on the defensive side of the ball. Entering the postseason, the Warriors were ranked ninth in the NAIA averaging 11 saves per game. Webber also scooped 16.8 groundballs per game and 7.8 draw controls per game during its six regular-season games. Leading the way for Webber was the goalkeeper Ashley Bosch, who made 57 saves and notched 20 groundballs during the regular season. The freshman from Petaluma, California, averaged 9.5 saves per game, which ranked 14th in the NAIA and third in the MSC. Midfielders Kaitlyn Patterson and Natalie Bartek were active on the field this season as well. Patterson led the Warriors with 19 draw controls while scooping 10 groundballs during the regular season. Bartek, meanwhile, was ranked second on the team with 17 groundballs
