Fighting Knights defeat 20th-ranked New Haven

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Lynn University women’s lacrosse team scored five-straight goals in the third quarter and carried that momentum to a 12-9 win over visiting 20th-ranked New Haven, Wednesday. The victory is the sixth-straight for the Fighting Knights as they improve to 8-1 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
– The game was tied at intermission at 4-4 and Lynn outscored the Chargers (3-1) 8-5 in the second half
– New Haven opened the third quarter with a goal for a 5-4 lead
– Junior Sydney Hill scored the first goal of the 5-0 run in the third at 9:10
– Sophomore Mallory Jarka (8:19) and junior Diane Dohler (6:48) each added unassisted scores for a 7-5 cushion
– Sophomore Kristyn Johnson scored off a feed from senior Isabella Clark to close the third-quarter scoring as Lynn led 8-5
– Hill found senior Danielle Farinas for the first goal of the fourth frame and a 9-5 lead
– Jarka added goals with 5:59 and 4:40 remaining in the fourth quarter and Johnson tacked on her final score with 1:25 to play to seal the 12-9 victory
– Lynn outshot the Chargers 32-23 and finished 14-of-21 on clears
– Johnson scored back-to-back in the first quarter and freshman Elizabeth Clagett scored once in the first and once in the second to help Lynn to the halftime tie
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
– Johnson finished with four goals and three ground balls
– Jarka scored three times with one assist
– Hill, Clagett and Farinas each finished with two points
– Graduate student Ciara Moorman picked up her third win of the season after stopping eight shots
