FIT: Hardie Records First Career Hat Trick, Helps Lead Women’s Lacrosse Over Gannon

MELBOURNE, FLA. – Florida Tech women’s lacrosse faced off against the Gannon Golden Knights on Friday evening in a non-conference matchupSophia Schicilone’s five points from three goals and two assists helped lead the Panthers over the Golden Knights by a score of 19-7.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:

  • Jennifer Boyle recorded her eighth goal of the season from an assist by Sophia Scichilone 1:42 into the game.
  • 41 seconds later Carly Niro picked up her first goal of the contest to put Tech up 2-0.
  • A woman-up goal from Rachel Johnson and Scichilone’s 12th goal of the season 39-second apart put the Panthers up 4-0 early on.
  • Gannon recorded its first goal a woman-up with 10:25 to go in the first.
  • An unassisted goal by Gillian Craig and a Charlotte Hardie goal assisted by Scichilone put the Crimson and Grey up 6-1.
  • The Golden Knights scored their second goal of the game, unassisted to trail by four.
  • Niro and Hardie each scored their second goal in the closing minutes of the third to put Tech up 8-2 at the end of the first.
  • Kayla Minton assisted on Niro’s goal with Boyle assisting on Hardie’s.

 
SECOND QUARTER:

  • Johnson started off the second with her second goal against Gannon 2:17 into the second quarter.
  • Boyle picked up her second 33 seconds after Johnson’s.
  • Johnson recorded the Panther’s first hat trick of the night for the Panthers for her 12th goal of the season.
  • Craig scored her second goal of the night and 13th of the season to start the running clock as the Crimson and Grey lead 12-2.
  • The Golden Knights answered back on a women’s up goal to bring the game back to within nine.
  • With 1:21 to go in the second Hardie picked up her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Craig to put Tech up 13-3 heading into halftime.


THIRD QUARTER:

  • The Golden Knights picked up the first two goals of the second half to trail 13-5 with 8:19 to go in the third.
  • Craig picked up her third goal of the night for her 14th of the season to give Tech the 14-5 lead.
  • Caroline Finn then recorded her third goal of the season with an Assist from Emma Angelo to give the Panthers the 15-5 lead.
  • The Golden Knights recorded their third woman-up goal of the night as they trailed 15-6.
  • Scichilone’s second goal of the game came with 2:05 to go at the end of the third which gave the Panthers the 16-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

 
FOURTH QUARTER:

  • The Golden Knights picked up the first goal of the fourth as they trailed 16-7 with 11:35 to go in the fourth.
  • Boyle scored her third goal of the night to become the fourth Panther to record a hat trick in the game.
  • Gabrielle Skowronski found the back of the net with 3:23 to go in the fourth.
  • Scichilone capped off the Panther’s big game, scoring her third goal of the game and 14th of the season giving Florida Tech the 19-7 victory over Gannon.

 
NOTABLE PANTHERS: 

  • Scichilone led the team in points scoring three goals and three assists.
  • Along with Scichilone, four other panthers scored hat tricks including Boyle, Craig, Johnson, and Hardie.
  • Johnson picked up her 10th career hat trick and is the ninth player in program history to reach that mark.
  • Hardie’s hat trick marks the first of her collegiate career.
  • Skowronski’s goal was the first of her collegiate career.
  • Karly Liebendorfer led the team with four draw-control wins.
  • Kailee O’BrienMaggie Reed, Liebendorfer and Boyle led the team with two ground balls each.
  • Liebendorfer and Boyle both had a team-high three ground balls with Elizabeth Christ and Hardie both having two.
  • In net, Emily Harris spent 45:00 in the crease making six saves while Cailey Canessa spent the final 15 minutes in goal making three saves.

 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • This was the first meeting between Florida Tech and Gannon.
  • The Panthers lead Gannon in shots 28-21
  • Tech led Gannon in shots on goal 22-16
  • Florida Tech out-saved Gannon nine to three
  • Gannon overturned the ball over six more times, 20-14
  • Tech was 14-15 o clear attempts.
  • Gannon recorded one more ground ball over the Panthers 17-18.
  • Each team finished with 15-15.
