Saints fall to Panthers on the road

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Drew Flagg recorded three goals as Flagler College was defeated by Florida Tech, 17-6, at Panther Field Saturday afternoon.

The Saints continue to search for the program’s first win as they fall to 0-3 overall. The Panthers improved to 2-2.

It was a close contest at the end of the first period, with the score knotted up at two. Thomas Pritchard scored the first goal for the Saints and Drew Flagg scored a goal following a Florida Tech penalty, with Geraint Shaw assisting.

Entering the second quarter, Florida Tech rattled off four consecutive goals in the first two and a half minutes of the quarter to give the home team a 6-2 lead. While Pritchard was able to stop the bleeding with 9:31 left in the quarter by cutting the deficit back down to three, 6-3, that was as close as it got as the Panthers closed the half with five unanswered goals, making the score 11-3.

Flagg ended the day with three goals, Pritchard with two and Shaw had one. Jack Newell recorded his first point as a Saint when he assisted on Shaw’s goal.

Panthers Pummel Flagler in MacArthur’s Debut

Excerpt:

The 19th-ranked Florida Tech Panthers (2-2) got their second win of the young season on Saturday, beating the new kid on the block, the Flagler Saints (0-3) 17-6 in a Division II regional matchup at the Olin Complex. It is the first year of the Flagler lacrosse program.

It was the first win for new head coach Brad MacArthur who took the reins as the Panthers’ full-time coach on Tuesday.

“The debut itself was minimal for me,” said MacArthur by phone after the game. “I just wanted to see the team go out and execute the game plan. They did that, and I think the sky’s the limit for this team.”

MacArthur credited interim head coach Zach Wynne and his staff for the job they did in the first three games of the season. “Zach did an admirable job keeping these guys focused,” he said. “I was there for the games in North Carolina and they did a great job, but I was glad to see this offense explode today.”
