Florida Tech is 6-0 for just the second time in program history after taking down Montevallo 13-7 Monday night

INSIDE THE MATCHUP

FIRST QUARTER:

• Falcons took an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game, but the Panthers would answer with a free position goal by Jennifer Boyle with 9:46 left in the quarter. 
• Montevallo went up 2-1 on a free position goal at the 6:54 mark.
• Rachel Johnson scored an unassisted goal with 59 seconds remaining in the quarter to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the second. 

SECOND QUARTER:

• Falcons grabbed a 3-2 lead just 1:16 into the second quarter.
• Tech controlled the rest of the half, outshooting the Falcons 14-2 and scoring seven unanswered goals to go into halftime with a 9-3 advantage. 
• Kayla Minton and Caroline MacLeod each tallied two goals during the run while Charlotte Hardie, Boyle and Johnson scored one goal apiece. 

THIRD QUARTER: 

• UM netted the opening goal of the second half to cut the margin to 9-4 with 14:08 left in the third. 
• Panthers answered with three consecutive goals, including free position tallies by Boyle and MacLeod and a goal by Minton off an assist from Johnson, to increase their lead to 12-4 with 3:50 to go. 
• Falcons scored with 1:31 remaining in the period to make it a 12-5 game going into the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER:

• Back-to-back goals by UM trimmed the margin to 12-7 with 9:39 to go. 
• Boyle closed out the scoring in the game with her fourth goal off an assist from Minton to push Tech’s lead to 13-7 with 2:49 left, as the Panthers improved to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 on their home field. 
   

NOTABLE PANTHERS:

• Jennifer Boyle paced all players with 5 points on 4 goals and 1 assist.
• Kayla Minton recorded 3 goals and 1 assist.
• Rachel Johnson registered 2 goals and 2 assists to go along with 2 caused turnovers. 
• Caroline MacLeod added a hat trick while collecting 6 draw controls, 2 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.
• Charlotte Hardie scored a goal and picked up 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. 
• Kailee O’Brien collected 5 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers.
• Ashley Walter had 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.
• Elizabeth Christ picked up 6 draw controls. 
• Cailey Canessa improved to 6-0 during her freshman season in the Panthers’ net, making 5 saves against the Falcons to go along with 6 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• Panthers finished with an edge in shots (40-16), shots on goal (34-12), draw controls (15-7) and caused turnovers (21-9). 
• Tech was successful on 17-19 clear attempts compared to 14-20 for the Falcons.
• Panthers converted 5-11 free position attempts and Montevallo went 3-4 for the game.   

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

• Florida Tech improves to 6-0 for just the second time in program history. The only other time the Panthers opened with wins in their first 6 games was in 2018. 

UP NEXT: Florida Tech is back in action next Monday, March 28 as the Panthers travel up to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter. The contest is set to begin at 12 p.m. at Ben Brady Field.

Panthers Overwhelm Falcons with Second Quarter Surge

Florida Tech women’s lacrosse won their sixth consecutive game on Monday, beating the Montevallo Falcons 13-7 at Florida Tech Panther Stadium.

This is the first time Tech has won their first six contests, since winning their first nine in 2018. They are currently ranked 18th in the latest Nike/USA Lacrosse poll.

Jennifer Boyle had four goals and an assist to lead the Panthers scoring on Monday with Kayla Minton (3g, 1 a), and Caroline MacLeod each finishing with a hat trick. Rachel Johnson had two goals and two assists, and Charlotte Hardie had a goal.

Anja Kuys, Lily McCormick, and Rylee Horton all had two goals for the Falcons, with Jenna Piazza scoring once.

Kuys got Montevallo on the board first, beating Panthers goalie Cailey Canessa, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead 1:56 in. One minute after Montevallo hit the post, Boyle answered with a free-position goal, trying the game with 9:46 left in the quarter.
