Flagler: Hawks Clip Saints in Overtime

ST. AUGUSTINE – Trace McDonald scored a hat trick for Flagler College in tonight’s game against Quincy University. The Saints fell short in overtime to the Hawks, 12-11.

Jayme Brain ended up scoring the game winner for the Hawks with less than one minute left in overtime.

Quincy (6-3) held off Flagler (2-7) the entire first quarter leaving the score 1-0 thanks to a Blaine Lowrance goal. However, the Saints came back with goals from Willy BatemanGeraint Shaw, and Drew Flagg to take a 4-3 lead to end the first half.

The Saints came out of halftime strong scoring three goals in a row to start the third quarter. Quincy’s Jordan Ernst scored three consecutive goals, the last with two minutes left in the quarter, to tie up the match 7-7.

The Saints and Hawks went back and forth the entire fourth quarter with McDonald scoring his third goal in the last two minutes, to tie it up for the Saints.

Flagler’s defense also stood out in tonight’s game with seven saves from goalie Nate Lehr and eight groundballs from John Adams DowdyOri ImirieDom TragerThomas PritchardWalker Smith, and Ethan Lyles all caused two turnovers apiece tonight for the Saints.

Next up, the Saints will be hitting the road on March 17 at 7 p.m. for a matchup against No. 18 (USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II Poll) Florida Southern College.
