Saints High-powered Offense Shoots Down #16 Eagles in Home-opener
ST. AUGUSTINE – Lexie Morton tied a school record with six goals this afternoon leading the Flagler College women’s lacrosse team to a 16-11 win over No. 16 (IWLCA) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Saturday afternoon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
The Saints improved to 2-0 and it was the program’s first win over a nationally ranked opponent. Today’s game was the season opener for Embry-Riddle.
Flagler trailed 6-3 just before the end of the second quarter and went on to score the next six goals in the game, including three by Morton, and never trailed again.
Jessica Wright added three goals and an assist for the Saints. Carly LaFerriere and Madison Daziel each scored two goals and tallied an assist.
Ella Pinder helped maintain possession of the ball today garnering eight draw controls for the Saints. Kenzie Dillon rallied on the defensive end with two caused turnovers and three groundballs. Lauren Ribadeneira stepped into the crease once again for the Saints making six saves this afternoon.
The Eagles were led offensively by Madison Ellwood and Sallie Squire scoring three goals each. The Eagles goalie Aubrey Fixen saved 11 of Flagler’s 27 shots on goal.
The Saints are now gearing up to face No. 5 Grand Valley State University on Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.

Women’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at Flagler
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team was unable to notch a win in their season-opener on Saturday, falling to Flagler 16-11 at the Flagler Lacrosse Field. The loss drops the 16th-ranked Eagles to 0-1 on the young season, while the Saints (RV) move to 2-0.
Flagler had the advantage early in Saturday’s contest, scoring the first two goals of the game to go up 2-0. The Eagles got a goal back when Kenley Zeruto finished an Anna Maurer feed. The Saints struck again to go up 3-1, but Sallie Squire and Zeruto answered again with a goal apiece in the last five minutes to even the score at 3-3 heading into the second quarter.
The Blue and Gold won the second period as goals by Squire, Madison Ellwood and Alexa Zeruto helped the Eagles outscore the Saints 3-1. Aubrey Fixen was a wall in goal for the Eagles in the second and her performance in that frame helped ERAU to a 6-4 lead at the half.
Flagler scored early and often in the third. The Saints capitalized on 11 shots to outscore the Eagles 7-2 and heading into the final period, the home team took over the lead, 11-8.
Ellwood’s second goal afternoon opened the scoring in the fourth at the 12:57 mark and just over a minute later, Alexa Zeruto scored to pull the Eagles within a goal (11-10). With 8:42 left to play, the Saints ended a three-minute scoring drought by both teams, netting three goals in less than two minutes to widen the gap and two more scores in the final three minutes helped seal the victory for the home team.
Ellwood and Squire finished with three goals each for the Eagles, while Alexa Zeruto tallied a game-high four assists. Fixen went the distance between the pipes, collecting 11 saves.
The Eagles are back on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Young Harris for a game that starts at 1 p.m.
