#15 Saints take down #18 Lions

ST. AUGUSTINE. – Carley Tepel led No. 15 (IWLCA Division II Top 25 Poll) Flagler College with five goals in its victory over No. 18 Saint Leo University this afternoon. The Saints outscored the Lions 18-11.
 
This is the Saints fifth win in a row making their record 7-1. It was also the second time this season Flagler has defeated a nationally ranked opponent. The Lions now sit at 6-2.
 
Although the Saints came out on top, the Lions led the first quarter 4-1 with two of their goals from Eliz Fino. Saints started to close the gap in the second quarter with goals from Tepel, Lexie Morton, and Madison Daziel, ending the first half 6-5, Lions.
 
The Saints came out strong in the third quarter scoring six goals in a row to create an insurmountable lead.
 
The Saints not only shined offensively, but defensivelyas well with Jenn Seebach causing six turnovers and Carly LaFerriere picking up four groundballs. LaFerriere and Ella Pinder won five draw controls each as well. Saints goalie Lauren Ribadeneira had a standout performance with ten saves for the game.  
 
The Saints will return on March 21 at 1 p.m. for a home game against Palm Beach Atlantic University.

#18 Lions Taken Down By #15 Flagler 18-11

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The #18 Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team fell to #15 Flagler 18-11.

The Lions now move to 6-2 after a hard defeat at the hands of the falcons.

In the first quarter, the Lions were trailing early after Flagler scored two minutes into the game but were quickly answered by Junior Fiona McLaughlin to tie the game with the help from an assist from Senior Ashlee Wilsynski.

Saint Leo took the momentum from their first goal and finished the first quarter with a 4-1 lead.

McLaughlin was the first to score in the second quarter extending the lead to four goals.

Flagler fought back as the quarter went along and the game went into halftime 6-5 with the Lions in the lead.

Flagler went on a run in the third quarter and took a 11-7 lead into the fourth quarter as the Lions were now faced with having to make a huge comeback against a strong Flagler team.

The Green & Gold were the first to score in the fourth and brought the deficit to three goals early.

Unfortunately for the Lions it was not enough as Flagler closed out the game as it finished with a final score of 18-11.

The leading scorer for Saint Leo was Fiona McLaughlin with four goals.

Up next, the Lions continue at home as they welcome Colorado Mesa into University Turf Stadium on March 21st at 7:00pm.
