FLN and Florida Prep are joining together to bring college coaches back to the state of Florida to bring the lacrosse community the 1st Annual FLN Florida Prep Lacrosse Showcase 120, to be held May 14th-15th in Sebring, Florida.  Attendees are limited to 120, with Boys classes of 2023-2027 available to attend.

For a while, we at FLN have been thinking through how to expand our brand name in ways we felt comfortable doing.  We certainly don’t want to add to the Club Tournament scene, as that is well set in how it operates in the state, and we don’t want to ‘step on toes’ in that world, as FLN has always stayed agnostic when it came to the Club events.

Over the years, we have appreciated the educational side of the lacrosse community as well as showcases, where the student athletes and families could have access to college coaches training them, while educating the families on the recruiting process.

Two things that FLN felt has been underemphasized has been the history of the sport and how that plays into the spirit of how the game should be played, not so much from the field strategies, but from the emotional and spiritual aspects of the sport, and how it evolved, as well as how it fits into what a college program calls its’ ‘Program Culture’.  Florida Prep is willing to partner with us in exploring ways to bring that knowledge to the community, while still providing a high-end experience of training and exposure to college coaches.

College programs today heavily emphasize accepting and fitting into their Program Culture.  This is very important for lacrosse families to fully understand, as talent alone will not guarantee being recruited.  This works both ways; the likelihood of success in the college experience is best when the ‘culture’ and the ‘player’ understand expectations fully before getting on campus.  It is a combination of attitude, keeping discipline in the classroom, locker room and throughout the college experience.  Self-discipline, motivation, and behavior are not just lacrosse culture, they are expectations in all aspects of a Program’s culture.

While the training and Showcase aspect of the event is in very experienced hands, FLN Florida Prep will be unveiling a new session within the Showcase that will focus on understanding why the sport of lacrosse is unlike any other.  The athlete and the family will learn in a classroom setting, with the coaches, what goes into a successful college experience, starting with the Do’s and Don’ts of the recruiting process, and we will add to that with a perspective of the ‘culture of lacrosse’, and how that gives the attendee a leg up in the recruiting process as you pursue your best fit in a college.

The attendees will go through Skill Development, Positional Concepts, Lacrosse IQ Development, Team Play and they will play a few games in front of the college coaches.

The Showcase will culminate with the FLN/Florida Prep Elite 44 playing in an All-Star Game at 3:30pm on Sunday.
