Florida Tech Men Run Past Seton Hill in Top-20 Clash

No. 20 Panthers down No. 15 Griffins 14-6 in a neutral site showdown at US Lacrosse HQ

FIRST QUARTER:

  • It took just 51 seconds for the Panthers to get on the board as Bennett Duffy scored to put Tech up 1-0.
  • Panthers took advantage of their first man-up opportunity in the game as Griffin Bowie found the back of the net off an assist from Zach Rozgonyi to increase Tech’s lead to 2-0 with 8:11 left in the first. 
  • SHU cut the margin to 2-1 with 5:42 remaining in the quarter as the Panthers took a 2-1 edge into the second. 

SECOND QUARTER:

  • Panthers outscored SHU 4-0 in the second quarter to take a 6-1 advantage into the break. 
  • Jakob Terpak scored twice in the quarter, the second coming off an assist from Nate Deplancke with 7:58 left in the half. 
  • Justin Williams tallied a goal at the 9-minute mark and Rozgonyi scored with 6:56 to go in the frame, both on unassisted efforts, to propel the Panthers to a five-goal advantage at halftime.  

THIRD QUARTER: 

  • Bowie grew the Panthers lead to 7-1 off an assist from Williams with 10:39 remaining before Duffy scored his second of the game at the midway mark of the third quarter to push the advantage to 8-1. 
  • After the Griffins scored to make it a 6-goal margin, Sam Sidari increased Tech’s lead to 9-2 off an assist from Griffin Martin with 5:18 to go in the third. 
  • Rozgonyi scored his second of the game off an assist from Collin Stewart to hand the Panthers a 10-2 advantage with 3:01 left. 
  • Stewart then got into the goals mix less than two minutes later off an assist from Williams to make the score 11-2 with 1:37 remaining. 
  • SHU scored with three seconds left in the third and the Panthers brought an eight-goal lead into the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER:

  • Griffins trimmed the margin to 11-4 early in the fourth before Bowie completed his hat trick, and scored his second man-up goal of the game, off as assist from Williams to make the score 12-4 with 11:37 left.
  • Duffy then finished off his hat trick 46 seconds later to push Tech’s lead to 13-4.
  • SHU tallied consecutive goals to bring its deficit to 13-6 with 8:46 to go.
  • Deplancke closed out the scoring in the game with 7:29 left off an assist from Williams as the Panthers cruised to their second top-20 win of the season. 
     

NOTABLE PANTHERS:

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Florida Tech ended with more shots (46-33), shots on goal (27-13), ground balls (31-24) and caused turnovers (16-5). 
  • SHU finished with a slight edge in faceoffs (12-11). 
  • Panthers were 24-28 on clear attempts while the Griffins went 19-23.
  • Tech was successful on 2-3 man-up opportunities compared to 0-1 for SHU.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Florida Tech improves to 2-1 all-time versus Seton Hill. In all three meetings, the Griffins had been ranked entering the contests.
  • Panthers improve to 2-1 against ranked opponents this season. 

UP NEXT: Florida Tech is back in action Monday, March 7, as the Panthers take on Wilmington on the road. Game is set to begin at noon at the Wilmington University Athletic Complex.
