FSC: #3 Mocs Close Weekend Trip with Win Over (RV) UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The third-ranked Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse team closed out its trip north with a 20-14 win over the University of Alabama (UAH) in Huntsville at Charger Park.
 
Florida Southern improves to 5-0 with the win over Alabama Huntsville, who received votes in the latest IWLCA DII Coaches Poll. The Chargers fall to 3-4 on the year after the loss to the Moccasins.
 
Madison Tare paced the Mocs with six goals for six points, ahead of Jackie Stoller and Hailey Daleo who each tallied five points in the road win. Stoller scored a pair of goals and dished out three assists while Daleo scored four and had one assist in the contest.
 
Sammy GorrasiAbby McFerren, and Emma Dudley each had two goals while Giana Murphy finished with one, to close the goal scorers for the Mocs.
 
In goal, Rylie Rittberg earned her second win with nine saves in 60 minutes of action in the cage.
 
The Chargers were led by Chloe Wood with four goals while Isadora Springer and Sarah Cole each finished with three points for the game.
 
The Mocs used a seven-goal first period to claim a lead before scoring five goals in back-to-back periods, carrying a 17-11 lead to the fourth quarter. The two teams each scored three goals in the final stanza where the Mocs claimed their six-goal win, 20-14.
 
Madison Tare got the scoring going for both teams 56 seconds into the contest with an unassisted goal. The Chargers answered back with two goals to hand the Mocs their first trailing moment of the weekend, 2-1 UAH.
 
Florida Southern would rip off three straight goals to reclaim its lead, 4-2; two from Jackie Stoller and one from Abby McFerren.
 
UAH would score its final goal of the period at the 5:38 mark while the Mocs saw a pair of Emma Dudley goals sandwich Sammy Gorrasi’s goal to close the opening quarter, FSC 7-3.
 
The game’s second 10-goal period opened with a Charger goal before the Mocs scored two straight from Hailey Daleo and Tare. UAH saw two straight to cut the deficit to 9-6 before Florida Southern’s Giana Murphy stopped the run, 10-6 FSC.
 
Like in the first quarter, Florida Southern used a 3-2 advantage down the stretch to finish the first half in front, 12-8. Tare and Gorrasi would score the final goals of the period for the Mocs.
 
In the first six minutes of the third period, UAH outscored the Mocs 3-1 to make it a two-goal game, 13-11, before Tare scored a player-up goal at the 8:25 mark to make it 14-11.
 
The game would go scoreless for four minutes before the Mocs scored three consecutive goals, all from Hailey Daleo, to give Florida Southern a 17-11 lead heading to the final quarter.
 
The Chargers once again found the back of the net first, but another six minutes ran off the clock before either team could score again. McFerren, Tare, and Ellie Griffin would rattle off three straight for the Mocs to push the game to 20-12 before UAH’s Chloe Wood closed the game with a pair of unassisted goals to bring the game to its final, 20-14 in favor of the Moccasins.
 
No. 3 Florida Southern will return home to host six straight games, starting on March 9 against Notre Dame College. The contest is slated to start Thursday at 11 a.m.
 
The Mocs will then host Pace (March 12), Mercy (March 16), Bentley (March 18), Colorado Mesa (March 25), and Lynn (April 1).
