  In one of the biggest surprises of the District playoffs, Buchholz upset Top 10 Oak Hall 8-5 in District 3.  Here is the link to the Gainesville Sun’s online sports section to read their coverage of the game:   EXCERPT:  

When it was over and his Buchholz boys lacrosse team rushed to the field in celebration, meeting their classmates who had jumped the fence to embrace their heroes, Bobcat coach Casey Adams dropped to his knees and contemplated what just happened.

For the first time in seven years, Buchholz is district champion.

Buchholz snapped the Eagles’ district reign of six straight championships, getting outstanding play from goalie Connor Burns and a pair of goals each from Evan Vogel and Corey Horner for a stunning 8-5 win Friday night at Citizens Field.

It marked only the third loss of the season for Oak Hall, which at 15-3 won’t be playing in next week’s state playoffs.

“I have been at Buchholz since I graduated and this has been nine years in the making for me,” Adams said. “These boys have lost a few times in their careers but I have been here for every single one of them.

“I have been waiting since 2009 to see that trophy go our way. It was just a little overwhelming, it was just a rush. I just needed to take a second to gather myself before I came out here in front of everybody.”

Burns had 13 saves, five in the second period alone, as Michael Anhalt’s goal with 3:10 left in the first half put Buchholz ahead for the first time. The Bobcats never trailed again.

“He is our player of the game,” Adams said of Burns. “He played outside of his mind.

“He’s had an up-and-down season and tonight was by far his best game he has played all season. And at the most important time.”

Buchholz (9-7) also got goals from Chase Vasquez, Phillip Evans and Grant Schaffer.
