HOW IT HAPPENED

The lethal Jacksonville offense was led by redshirt junior and captain Jacob Greiner’s record setting day. Greiner in the first half alone led the team with four goals and three assists, needing just four points in the second half to tie the all-time JU record for points in a game. The Exton, Pennsylvania, native was directly involved in three of the first four Dolphins goals in the second half to set the stage for another record to be broken. With just under five minutes to play in the game Jacksonville got an extra-man opportunity that saw Greiner find a crafty Daniel May cross-crease for an open net goal and tie the record for the JU captain with six goals and five assists.

“This week of practice was probably the hardest we’ve had in the spring so far,” said Greiner on the week of preparation that led to the Dolphins victory. “The guys were getting after it, coming off that loss at Utah. We put in the work, and I think we had one of the best all-around team showings this week.”
“I mean (credit) our D-Middies, our defense, (Luke) Millican in the cage, Max (Waldbaum), JI (Intrieri), Dylan (Watson) on the attack,” commented Greiner on his record setting day. “I just happened to be on the end of those scoring opportunities but that was all the D and those other guys making those opportunities for me.”

The Dolphins jumped out of the gates immediately thanks to Nathan Kapp winning the first face-off of the game and racing through the Royals defense to score just six seconds into the game. Kapp went on to win every single face-off in the first quarter to compliment a plethora of ground balls to see himself as the new program leader for ground balls in a career. The redshirt junior from Middleton, Wisconsin, continued to set records throughout the game as his 21 face-offs saw him eclipse the 600 face-off win plateau and also jump to the top of the Jacksonville leaderboards in career face-off wins. Kapp’s two goal day, both coming off direct face-off wins, was the first multi-goal game in his career.

“Excited for Nathan and Jacob,” commented head coach John Galloway on the records that were broken this afternoon. “They are two of the hardest working guys in the program. They deserve the moment, but they will be the first to tell you it is about the team more than anything.”

Jacksonville’s 25 goals are the most that they’ve scored in a single game since last year’s win against Hampton on April 17thMax Waldbaum added what is his third hat-trick of the season, May recorded three goals, and a plethora of Dolphins had multi-goal games. Nathan KappBrandon GallowaySam ChaseDylan Watson and Luke Robinson all nabbed two goals a piece in the Dolphins convincing victory, easily the players Jacksonville has had with multi-goal games this season.

Not to be overshadowed was the Dolphins defense. Troy Hettinger led the unit with three caused turnovers and three ground-balls. Jacksonville as a team forced 14 turnovers. Three JU keepers appeared in the game with Luke Millican stopping six shots, Jason Yoquinto and Josh Estavillo recorded a save each as well in the effort.

“Really proud of the men in our locker room,” further added head coach John Galloway after the win. “What people won’t see were the practices we had going to battle on Monday and Wednesday against each other that led us to today. We need more of that. Our white scout team was awesome this week, and I am so proud of how they played in the second half. That is a big deal. We preach ‘only need everyone’ and this week was a testament to that. We need every guy in our locker room if we want to win in five weeks.”

  • The Dolphins had 18 players record at least one point on the afternoon with 11 having multi-point games
  • Daniel May’s hat-trick was his first of the season
