Hatters Defeat Hornets, Pick up First ASUN Win

Dover, DE – Stetson (8-6, 1-3) defeated Delaware State (2-11, 0-4) 21-11 on Sunday afternoon to pick up their first ASUN win of the season.

In the first quarter, Samantha Paglino would get the Hatters on the board at the 13:43 mark. The Hornets would net the next two before Kaitlin Pani would tie it up for the Hatters at 2 apiece. Jessica Duggan would net two in a row at the 3:34 mark and 3:23 mark. Paglino would get her second of the contest to push Stetson’s lead to three at the end of the first 5-2 over Delaware State.

The Hatters turned up the defense in the second quarter as they turned over the Hornets 4 times and held them to just two goals. Jordyn Humphrey would get her first goal of the game at the 13:40 mark, followed up by Sam King at the 10:38 mark. The Hornets would net the next two goals making the overall score 7-4 in favor of Stetson. Humphrey would get another goal and Georgia Goering would get her first of the game. Aine Williams would get on the scoreboard next at the 3:04 mark, Pani would get her second and Molly Kearney would also score for the Hatters, to increase their lead to 12-4 over the Hornets heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, Paglino would net a goal at the 12:32 mark, Delaware State would respond with one of their own. King and Pani would score the next two as the Hatters would lead 15-5 over the Hornets. Delaware State would net a goal off a free position shot at the 5:16 mark. King would respond for the Hatters at the 5:02 mark. The Hornets would find the back of the net two more times before the end of the quarter making the score 16-8 in favor of Stetson.

The Hatters would score four in a row to start the fourth quarter. Paglino and Humphrey would each score one, while Pani would score twice to extend the lead to twelve as the Hatters lead 20-8. The Hornets would score the next two before Kayleigh Flanegan would net the final score for Stetson on the afternoon. Delaware State would score one final time at the :18 mark, however Stetson would pick up their first ASUN win with a 21-11 victory.

The Hatters will return home to play on Thursday April 20 against Queens at 3:00 p.m. The game is scheduled to be on ESPN+.
